Luckiest Girl Alive, starring Mila Kunis and produced by Reese Witherspoon, is being dubbed ‘the next Gone Girl

In the market for an edge-of-your-seat thriller as summer turns into autumn? Netflix film Luckiest Girl Alive could be your next perfect watch, and has even been dubbed as the next Gone Girl – a tall order in itself!

It's a movie bound for success and intrigue, as it's had the Reese Witherspoon treatment. Adapted from the bestselling novel written by Jessica Knoll, Witherspoon's production company snapped up the story before it had even published.

Mila Kunis set to star in the titular role, and were are here for all the intrigue and drama. Here's what we know so far.

What is Luckiest Girl Alive about?

Due to the many Gone Girl comparisons, we want to point out Luckiest Girl Alive's exploration of a woman's complicated past, and how secrets, scandal and darkness resurface to reveal a compelling, addictive story.

What we know is this: Kunis' character has a seemingly perfect life, but her past is set to come back and threaten all that she holds dear. Juicy.

The official synopsis for the film reads: "Ani FaNelli (Kunis), a sharp-tongued New Yorker, appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon.

"But when the director of a crime documentary invites her to tell her side of the shocking incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Brentley School, Ani is forced to confront a dark truth that threatens to unravel her meticulously crafted life."

Who has been cast in Luckiest Girl Alive?

Alongside Mila Kunis, Connie Britton (Promising Young Woman), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) and Flashdance star Jennifer Beals are all confirmed to be in the cast.

Author Jessica Knoll has already written the screenplay, aligning with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn's decision to adapt her story from book to screen.

"There was talk of another more established screenwriter doing it," she said in an interview with Cosmopolitan. "And it didn’t work out. In the 11th hour, my agent was like, ‘Just as a reminder, Jessica is really interested in writing the script.’ 

"Everyone realised it would be a real time suck to interview all these co-writers."
