With biopics all the rage – think Priscilla, Oppenheimer, Maestro – we are intrigued by an upcoming series about a huge real-life story from fashion history. Enter The New Look.
Starring Maisie Williams and Juliette Binoche, the Apple TV+ series takes us back to the WW2 era – showcasing the emerging force that was Christian Dior. The show explores how this affected Coco Chanel and her fashion empire, and how both designers contributed to the launch of what we can now call “modern fashion”. So for any fashion history buffs out there, it's essentially a must-watch.
Filming starts very soon.

You can bet the costumes will be on point, and the plot surrounding two rivalling couture designers will be intriguing. We can't wait.
Here's everything we know about the series so far.
What is The New Look about?
According to the plot synopsis, The New Look follows “the pivotal moment in the 20th century when the French city led the world back to life through its fashion icon Christian Dior.
"As Dior rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy. The interwoven saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and more; and, provides a stunning view into the atelier, designs and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior.”
Set in the 1940s, the series essentially looks at how Dior changed the direction of modern fashion.
The New Look cast
Ben Mendelsohn will play Christian Dior, while Juliette Binoche (Chocolat) is set to take on the role of Coco Chanel.
Maisie Williams and Glenn Close will also star as Catherine Dior (Christian Dior's sister) and Carmel Snow, editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar US at the time, respectively. Also joining the cast are Emily Mortimer (Mary Poppins Returns) and Claes Bang (Bad Sisters).
Does The New Look have a release date?
Yes! It will be available to watch from 14 February on Apple TV+ – just in time for Valentine's Day. The first three episodes will drop on the streaming service on the 14th, with one episode dropping each week thereafter until 3 April.
