Apple TV offers no shortage of great TV shows. From The Last Thing He Told Me to Ted Lasso, Imperfect Women to Pluribus, there’s enough to keep us booked and busy. But the latest Apple TV series to steal our hearts might just be the top of the pile, and we can’t believe the first season is already over.

Obviously, we’re talking about Margo’s Got Money Troubles. Adapted from Rufi Thorpe’s bestselling novel of the same name, the series is produced by star Elle Fanning, alongside her sister Dakota Fanning — yes, sister power team.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles follows a college student turned single mother who launches an OnlyFans account to make ends meet. It’s a far more thoughtful depiction of sex work than some other shows on our screens — we all know which ones we mean.

The bidding war for screen rights began even before the 2024 novel release hit shelves, but will the story end there? Has Margo’s Got Money Troubles been renewed for a second season? Here’s everything we know.

Has Margo's Got Money Troubles been renewed for season 2?

Given that Margo’s Got Money Troubles is based on a standalone novel, a second season wasn’t necessarily expected. However, it’s not uncommon for a popular TV series to expand beyond its source material once it finds an audience — much like Big Little Lies, another hit from Margo’s Got Money Troubles creator David E. Kelley.

On the season two renewal, Kelley said, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles was an irresistible proposition to me from day one. I fell in love with Rufi’s world and unpredictable characters, and it’s been rewarding to see audiences embrace this series. We can’t wait to continue this story with our partners at Apple and A24.”

Given that season one closely follows the events of the novel, the writers will now be stepping into “off-book” territory for the new season.

Interestingly, the author originally envisioned the story as a series, but was initially advised against it by her publisher. “I had, in my head, dancing around all sorts of ideas of where Margo goes from here … I don’t feel attached to them pursuing any of those specific things that were in my head, but I always felt like there was so much potential for Margo to go on in her adventures.”

Thorpe has also confirmed she is involved in the “brainstorming” process for season two.

When will Margo's Got Money Troubles season 2 come out?

So we’ve got Margo’s Got Money Troubles season two confirmed, but when can we actually expect it to land on our screens?

There’s no official release date yet, but we can do a bit of sleuthing. Margo’s Got Money Troubles was filmed between February and June 2025, before releasing weekly from 15 April 2026.

Given the star-studded cast, simply getting everyone’s schedules aligned again may take some time. On top of that, there’s been no confirmed word yet on completed scripts for the new season.

By those timelines, filming would likely not begin until autumn 2026 at the earliest, which would put us on track for a potential autumn 2027 release. If we’re feeling more pessimistic, we could even be looking at spring 2028 — sorry. That would also mean baby Bodhi is definitely due for a recast.

What will be the plot of Margo's Got Money Troubles season 2?

As mentioned, there are no completed scripts for Margot's Got Money Troubles season 2, as the finale literally just came out. But the writers definitely have some ideas…

Eva Anderson, executive producer who has been upped to co-showrunner for season two, said, “Now that she has a little bit of free time, and she’s not … in danger of losing her kid, it would be prudent now for Margo to explore a little bit of her own loves and desires and needs, and maybe even … see her get out there and date, who knows. It’s definitely on the table.”

She continued, “Jinx is going to have to be sober now if he’s going to be part of everybody’s life, and we’ve never seen Jinx really working on sobriety in a serious way … so seeing the way Jinx adapts to life, where it has to be a lot simpler for him, I think, could be really interesting. The wrestler that Jinx is based on was also a manager of wrestlers, and that’s a part of Jinx’s career that we haven’t explored either.”

Rufi Thorpe suggested, “I also think that there’s these open questions about how is Shyanne going to self-actualize in this marriage — what are the choices that she’s made that she feels like she kind of has to make … she has this understanding of what her constraints are under the patriarchy and has made her decisions accordingly, and then is she going to be able to be happy?”

“One more person that we really are excited to dig into a lot this season is Susie," Anderson shared. "Susie became such a loyal friend to both Jinx and Margo, and a creative partner and a babysitter, but there’s a lot going on with Susie that hasn’t been tapped, so we’re going to really look under the hood of what makes Susie tick.”

Will Nicole Kidman be in season 2 of Margo's Got Money Troubles?

It’s safe to say the core cast of Margo’s Got Money Troubles will be returning for season two. It wouldn’t make sense not to have protagonist Margo Millet back for more chaos and character growth, alongside her support system in Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), Jinx (Nick Offerman) and Susie (Thaddea Graham).

While nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s also likely that Greg Kinnear will return as Margo’s lovable, slightly square stepfather, Kenny. Especially as we'll need to see the fallout of that finale reveal.

And although Margo successfully won full custody of Bodhi in the dramatic season one finale courtroom showdown, Mark (Michael Angarano) still retains visitation rights, making it very likely he and his mother, Elizabeth (Marcia Gay Harden), could reappear in season two.

With the custody battle resolved, Anderson did not confirm whether Nicole Kidman, who plays Lace, Jinx’s former wrestling colleague and Margo’s lawyer, will be returning on screen.

However, given Kidman’s role as an executive producer on Margo’s Got Money Troubles, it feels likely David E. Kelley will find a way to keep her character involved. Her dynamic with Jinx also feels ripe for further exploration in future episodes.

Will Margo's Got Money Troubles season 2 be the final season?

Getting slightly ahead of ourselves, but yes, we’re officially obsessed with the show. So could there be a season three of Margo’s Got Money Troubles?

“David always says he wants it to be a three-season show, and I think that could be a perfect little arc for all these characters,” Anderson revealed. “But who knows… the wind blows wherever they blow in TV land, but I can picture three really nice seasons.”

In the meantime, we'll keep you posted on season 2 of Margo's Got Money Troubles.
