Following on from some killer book-to-TV adaptations (Bridgerton, Normal People, The Queens Gambit, Heartstopper, anyone?), much-loved, heartbreaking David Nicholls novel One Day is getting the Netflix treatment, and it's coming to screens this week.
The series will drop on Thursday – and we can't wait. It'll be interesting to see how it differs and overlaps with the 2011 movie rendition, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Nicholls wrote the screenplay for the film, and will be an executive producer on the Netflix outing.
There will be 14 episodes, which will reportedly cover more ground from the book than the film. For the uninitiated, One Day explores the story of best friends and (spoiler?) star-crossed lovers Emma and Dexter, who meet at university and begin a relationship full of ups and downs. Both the book and movie revisit the characters on the same date (the one they met on) throughout different years in their life, observing how the duo are navigating life and their feelings for each other.

Ambika Mod plays Emma
British actor, comedian and This Is Going To Hurt and I Hate Suzie Too star Ambika Mod will play Emma – a bookish, sarcastic, working class Northerner who dreams of being a writer but must first weather the storm of Mexican restaurant work to survive in London. Mod won hearts back in 2022 after playing struggling trainee doctor Shruti Acharya, and won a Royal Television Society Programme Award for her performance.
Leo Woodall plays Dexter
The White Lotus heart throb – and none other than the beau of The Bold Type's Meghann Fahy – Leo will play Dexter. GLAMOUR can confirm that he takes the role on with swagger, and who can be surprised after his most recent outing as a cheeky Essex lad on White Lotus?
Eleanor Tomlinson plays Sylvie Cope
Sylvie is one of Dex's more significant girlfriends, and comes from a LOT of old money, which leads to him playing a rather unfortunate game at the family mansion in order to win favour with her parents.
Eleanor, of course, is best known for her work on Poldark and Channel 4's TV series The Couple Next Door.
Amber Grappy plays Tilly
A definite GLAMOUR favourite, Tilly is Emma's best university friend and partner in crime when they both move to London as adults. We see a lot of female friendship themes in scenes with these two, and it's fabulous to witness. Amber is best known for her work on romcom Smothered, as well as Wreck and The Baby.
Essie Davis plays Alison
Essie plays the role of Dex's chic mum to absolute perfection. She has some corker lines when it comes to putting him in his place and pushing him to be a better man. You may recognise the Australian actor from The Babadook or Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.
Jonny Weldon plays Ian
The House of the Dragon and The People We Hate At The Wedding actor and YouTuber is hilarious in his role as Emma's friend and boyfriend Ian, a struggling comedian.
Tim McInnerny plays Stephen
A familiar face in British romcoms, having starred in the quintessential classic Notting Hill, Tim plays Dex's stern, but charmingly proper father Stephen. Tim has also starred in Game of Thrones, Gangs of London and The Serpent.
Joely Richardson (Lady Chatterley's Lover) and Toby Stephens will also star as Sylvie's VERY posh parents.
What is One Day about?
The show's official plot synopsis reads as follows: “One Day tells the story of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew who, on 15th July 1988, the night of their graduation, speak for the very first time. The next morning, they go their separate ways but where will they be on this one ordinary day the next year, and the year after that, and every year that follows?
“Each episode finds Dex and Em, one year older, on this one particular date, as they grow and change, move together and apart, experience joy and heartbreak.”

All episodes are set to drop on Thursday 8 February 2024.
