It's been an eventual few weeks for Kate Middleton, to say the least. The Princess of Wales has been exceptionally busy in the lead-up to King Charles III's coronation — and so has her hairstylist. For her latest royal engagement, Middleton swapped her polished princess blowout for a massive twisted side bun reminiscent of Princess Leia if she were part of the British royal family.

Instead of Leia's signature cinnamon roll buns on either side of her head, Middleton opted for a twisted, knotted style pinned up firmly near the nape of her neck, ideal for the more formal garden party she and her family attended post-coronation. The bun was positioned slightly to the side to make room for her angled pastel blue hat with a giant rose under the brim, because you can't attend a fancy royal party without a hat to match!

The palace hairstylists probably have to do some major planning to ensure each hairstyle is hat- (or tiara) friendly, given the many occasions in which royals are required to wear said accessories. While Middleton could have worn her hair long and loose as she often does, the updo works well with her high-necked baby blue tulle Elie Saab bow blouse and matching skirt and feels dressed up without being too fussy. If you're on the hunt for bridal hair inspo that works well with various accessories, Middleton has you covered.

The Princess of Wales may have skipped her go-to blowout in favour of wearing her hair up, but she did stick to to her usual makeup routine of dark eyeliner, pink blush and a matching pink lip. She rarely deviates from this look; it's probably one simple way to streamline her routine at such high-profile engagements, so I don't blame her for staying loyal to her favourite products and techniques.

The future queen and her glam team love a good bun, but they keep it interesting for the legions of royal watchers with braids, loops and twists so Middleton's fancier updos are anything but basic. As the Princess of Wales, Middleton will likely participate in even more royal engagements, which means one thing to us: more buns and blowouts!
