We need to talk about Jenna Ortega’s Met Gala 2025 dress, which was made out of metal rulers and one of the boldest looks of the evening.

There were so many A-listers present on the Met Gala red carpet that it can be hard to keep up with all the eye-catching looks. When one stands out, as Ortega did with her dress, it’s a testament to its impact.

This year’s Met Gala 2025 dress code was Tailored for You and was interpreted by most through different suit variations and details such as pinstripes, blazers, and large hats. There was one exception, though: Jenna Ortega.

The Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actor took the word tailored literally; she appeared in a futuristic silver-coloured dress, created by Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, made from classroom rulers cut to various lengths and linked end to end or overlapped.

To match the metallic colour of the dress, Ortega went with white gold diamond jewellery and a silver necklace. Her long hair was styled in Old Hollywood waves that, when combined with her smoky makeup, created a soft contrast to the statuesque dress.

It’s precisely this thinking-outside-the-box strategy that makes Olivier Rousteing’s Met Gala designs stand out year after year. In 2024, with the theme Garden of Time, he provided the viral Met Gala moment of the evening – remember Tyla walking the red carpet as an actual hourglass with a dress made of sand? Iconic.
