If you weren't one of the millions who flocked to the cinema to see Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling take their turns as Barbie and Ken in Barbie (or perhaps you were, and you're just ready for round two), you're in luck – since the record-breaking movie is now available to watch at home. Yay!

Barbie: what you need to know

If you've (somehow) managed to miss the Barbie mania, here's a short catch-up.

Starring the likes of Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Will Ferrell and Kate McKinnon, the film takes Barbie as a cultural icon and explores themes of womanhood, consumerism, ageing, gender stereotypes and patriarchy.

In a nutshell, Barbie, who lives in seemingly-perfect, all-smiles Barbieland, finds herself experiencing an existential crisis – she starts having thoughts about death, and her perfectly pointed feet have gone flat. And so, she must journey to the real world to find out what's made her become unstuck… and in doing so, she learns all about the realities of living as a woman.

It's hard-hitting stuff – wrapped up in a pink, fluffy, joyous packaging (plus, Ryan Gosling sings. And dances.)

We'll undoubtedly be unpicking Barbie for decades, so it's well worth a watch – and since rumours of a sequel are already abound, you might as well get ahead of the inevitable second-wave hysteria now. Let's go party, etc etc!
