After months of teasing a new addition to her skincare and makeup line, Hailey Bieber's Rhode Pocket Blush is about to drop. GLAMOUR speaks to the beauty mogul about her favourite blusher hack, the biggest makeup trend for summer 2024 and the body care routine she swears by for pregnancy skin.

Blush – specifically the sort that you can tap on sans mirror – is Hailey Bieber's “favourite thing in the world.” Over the past 12 months alone she has made the case for peach girl blush, strawberry blush and, lest we forget, ‘sugar plum fairy’ blush – where pretty pink cheeks took centre stage alongside a sugary dusting of shimmer on the high points of her face.

For every blush trend that Hailey popularises, her devoted followers turn it into a viral phenomenon. So expect the algorithm to go into meltdown on June 20 when the new Rhode Pocket Blush – a creamy stick formula that ties your whole look together with just a few swipes – goes on sale.

When Hailey pops up on my Zoom to reveal the news, she looks like the Hailey Bieber we often see captured by the paparazzi on route to Erewhon for a smoothie. She's wearing a cream sweatshirt and glasses, her hair casually swept up into a high ponytail, while a stretchy '90s cotton headband catches any stray strands.

Impossible to ignore is her skin, which, even off duty, looks sun-flushed and more crystal clear than the diamond-crusted bubble letter “B” pendant around her neck.

She credits her glow to “putting the Glazing Milk on underneath first and then the Pocket Blush over the top because it just brings this extra, added dewiness to it,” she says.

This is Hailey ‘Glazed Doughnut’ Bieber, after all.

Hailey Bieber's blush - everything you need to know

The Rhode Pocket Blush is Hailey's second foray into colour cosmetics (the hugely popular Peptide Lip Tints were her first in 2023). Housed in beige, palm-size packaging, it comes in six shades – from baby pink and neutral peach to bronze terracotta – to suit different skin tones and undertones.

“I wanted to create something that really aligns with our core messaging of those everyday, must-have items that you need to have in your purse, that you need to stick in your pocket," she says. “That's kind of where the Pocket Blush name came from… For me, with a blush, bringing life to the cheeks will enhance the whole face.”

Because the other Rhode products are renowned for hydration and barrier protection, the Pocket Blush also takes a skincare-first approach. This, Hailey notes, is its point of difference, which is why you'll find peptides and tamanu seed oil on the roster of ingredients.

Ease plays a part, too – so you can wear the Rhode Pocket Blush on both the cheeks and lips. "Anything that you can kind of just tap in, tap onto the lips and it's going to bring life to the face. It just is a game changer for me,” Hailey says.

Aware that cream blusher often gets a bad rap for disappearing after a few hours' wear, each Pocket Blush shade is super pigmented – despite their deceptively sheer finish.

As someone who rarely wears cream blusher for this very reason, I can vouch for their impressive staying power. Scratch that, I'm actually converted by the juicy stain that makes your skin look so polished, I swear it would get you an upgrade on a flight.

How Hailey applies the Rhode Pocket Blush

“What I really like about it is that if you wanted to do more of a glam look – like you're doing more of a full face of makeup – it's beautiful colour for that kind of a situation," says Hailey. "But it's also a really beautiful colour for just over the top of your skincare and if you are on the go – running out of the house – and you want to just have a pop of colour.

"That's the way that I've been using it the most, especially right now with wanting to feel minimal but still feel cute, and not spend too much time getting ready every day," she says. “I just posted this video of how I've been getting ready in the car a lot and I've just been using it with a brow product, a bit of concealer, the cheek and a lip,” she adds.

In the aforementioned TikTok video, Hailey can be seen tracing her lips with RMS's Go Nude Lip Pencil in Nighttime before tapping on a touch of the blush (the shade out of shot) and finishing with the Peptide Lip Tint in rose taupe shade Toast.

When I ask Hailey what her favourite Rhode blush for the lip is, she cocks her head for a moment. “I've been using Piggy a lot with a nice nude liner and I've just been tapping it into my lips," Hailey reveals. "I have that one on right now.”

Piggy is the more fleshy pink of all the shades, although for a summer blush look she says she would “consistently reach for Spicy Marg”, a bright coral hue. "I love everything that looks like you've bitten into a gorgeous piece of fruit or it just stained your lips. That's what I love about the blush; it kind of just gives that flush.

“I want people to put it on and think, 'There's an Aperol spritz',” she continues before exclaiming, "Maybe that's it – it's Aperol spritz makeup next!”

To create the most realistic effect, Hailey is partial to applying blush on the bridge of her nose and high up on the cheekbones. “I like to see where I've gotten caught from the natural sun a lot of the time,” she says. “And I also really like to combine the colours,” she adds.

“I wear Sleepy Girl and Piggy together a lot. What I like about Sleepy Girl is that more mauve colour, so I'll usually do that first and then pop Piggy on top, like a brighter pink. I will do Freckle and Spicy Marg together; I'll do Juice Box and Piggy together, so it's fun to play around and see the combos that work.”

But, ultimately, Hailey always goes back to the idea of this beautiful, natural, glowy flush. “I think that I've always felt the most beautiful with a more minimal skin-first, ‘let the skin shine, let it show’ approach," she reflects. "That's just how I feel comfortable in my skin.”

Perhaps for all of these reasons, it's unsurprising that Hailey describes Kate Moss as “everything" and “a forever person that's just never going to leave the beauty mood board.” As she points out, the imagery of Kate she loves most is when "she has no makeup on, or she's just kind of got this glow to her cheeks and she just lets her skin show and her freckles show."

Not unlike Hailey herself. Although something tells me Hailey Bieber is too cool and too generous to admit it.

Hailey on her everyday makeup essentials

“I personally think that I just look better with more paired-back makeup," she says. "For a red carpet or for events, I'm down to push the envelope a bit and try more – maybe a more sexy or a more intense eye or whatever it may be. But when I'm doing my makeup myself, I feel like I've learned what works for me and what doesn't.”

Typically, this involves three everyday essentials. “I can't leave the house unless I have a lip product, a brow and a blush," she notes. “I can survive off of those things as long as I have that in my bag.”

She tells me that Lancôme concealer and Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products are staples in her kit. “I love her [Anastasia's] stuff. She actually lives in my neighbourhood, so I'm able to ride my bike over to her house to get my eyebrows done. She's very major.”

Hailey describes the Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate Contour Duo as one of her “Holy Grails” and says she loves a freckle pen. "I'm still very loyal to enhancing my freckles. I just think it brings a youthfulness and a vibrance to the face.”

She also admits to regularly carrying a travel-sized powder with her. "As much as I love all the dewy looks, I feel like there's certain places on the face that I like to lock everything in," she adds, pointing to the area under her eyes and either side of her nostrils.

Her pregnancy body care routine

“I guess I probably incorporate more oils in the summer," Hailey says. “I definitely am putting a lot more body oils with my body cream. I'm always making sure I'm wearing head-to-toe body cream.

"I would say it's probably even more extra now, just layering and layering and layering creams and stuff on to keep the skin healthy as I expand,” she adds, alluding to her recently announced pregnancy.

The product she says she's buying on repeat is Naturium's The Glow Getter Multi-Oil Body Butter (currently only available in the US). "It's in a yellow tub that I keep buying over and over again, which is rare for me. Usually I'll be like, ‘Oh, try something else now'. But I've been very loyal to that one for the last six months.”

On wellness

Normally an avid fan of cold plunging for its instant energy boost ("I hate to do it, but I love how I feel from it"), Hailey is also finding clever ways to adapt her favourite wellness practices. “Well, a lot of the normal ones that I really love, I'm not doing right now – just given pregnancy," she explains. "But I think there's ways to still incorporate it with dunking the face in ice water.”

Hailey's fragrance personality

Hailey is drawn to unisex scent Bond No.9 West Side, with notes of rose, ylang ylang, sandalwood and musk.

“It's not too feminine and it's not too masculine,” she says. “I feel like my style has sometimes reflected that in the past, where it's like I can do very big and oversize and baggy and I like to incorporate a lot of gender neutral clothing into my everyday style. So that's why I like that fragrance because it doesn't really lean one way or the other. It's just like a great smell.”

But when it comes to channelling a carefree summer mood, she's loyal to Ex Nihilo Lust in Paradise, "because it's even the name – it's like paradise and you think beachy, summery.”
