It seems Hailey Bieber has an uncanny knack of revealing a viral beauty trend just in time for the festive season. Last year, it was candy cane glazed nails, a look that leant on the sheer ‘glazed donut’ nail for the base – with a stripe of candy red for the French tip. But for 2023, the model and entrepreneur has delivered a new wintery riff on her strawberry girl aesthetic – and it's already tipped to be every cool girl's go-to look for winter.

Hailey's “Sugar Plum Fairy" makeup trend is exactly how it sounds: swathes of light-reflecting shimmer take centre stage on the eyes, lips and high points of the face, alongside pretty pink cheeks. It's like the après ski version of strawberry girl that combines an icicle-like sheen with the type of flush you only get when you sit by the fire after a day on the slopes.

When GLAMOUR interviewed Hailey Bieber a few months ago about her first foray into makeup with Rhode, she reminisced about being a ballet dancer when she was younger. “I remember when I was a little kid at my first ballet recital, my mom gave me rosy cheeks and a little lip gloss so I think a lot about performance makeup when I think about makeup,” she told us.

Now in a TikTok video, Hailey has disclosed that “when I was 16 I was the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker…this is my 2023 version of that makeup. My go to vibe for the holiday season!”.

Against a musical backdrop of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Hailey can be seen schooling her 11.4 million followers on how to get the look (although she doesn't name specific products).

The clip opens with her buffing concealer under her eyes before using her fingertips to dab cream blush over the tops of her cheekbones. In a novel move, she takes the colour right up underneath the lower rim of her eyes.

She emphasises the pink hue by loading up her trusty Hourglass Veil Powder Brush with a little powder blusher, additionally taking it up over her eyelids. She then rubs a little cream shimmer eyeshadow over her lids before adding the caption: “Put gloss on my lids and added more shimmer.”

Hailey then taps whatever gloss and shimmer is left over onto the tops of her cheekbones and across the bridge of her nose before adding a smattering of teeny freckles. In a previous Get Ready With Me video, makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes used the Beaubble Berry Freckled Pen on Hailey (good options in the UK are the Lottie London Freckle Tint and Freck Faux Freckle Cosmetics Neutral).

She combs her eyebrows up and gets to work on the lip. After using what looks like a brown lip liner to enhance the shape, she softens the outline and buffs in the colour with her fingers. An all-important coat of Rhode Peptide Lip Tint formula in the new glistening flavour Jelly Bean and a slick of mascara complete the look.

I don't know about you, but I'm letting “sugar plum fairy makeup” be my everyday look until January 2nd.
