Freaky Friday, one of our all-time favourite Noughties films, is making a comeback with a sequel in the works. And, to anticipate your next question, yes – both Lindsay Lohan & Jamie Lee Curtis, stars of the original 2003 movie, will be appearing in it, and it will be made by Disney.

Lohan recently revealed to People that the film is “in the process”. She added, “[I'm] just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it. Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun with this."

The news of the second Freaky Friday was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter last year. The pair also addressed the forthcoming sequel in a joint interview with The New York Times to mark 20 years since the OG film's release.

According to Curtis, the film – which will be penned by screenwriter Elyse Hollander – was spurred on by all the questions she was receiving about the original during the publicity cycle for her 2022 film, Halloween Ends: “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made."

“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore," added Lohan.

Some trivia: it was also revealed in The New York Times interview that another actress was originally meant to play Curtis' character (although now we can't imagine anyone else portraying the widowed therapist mum Tess!).

For those in need of a recap, the original Freaky Friday film was a fantasy-comedy based on Mark Rodgers' 1972 novel of the same name. It was actually the third film adaptation of the book, following a 1976 film co-starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, and a second made-for-TV 1995 film. Third time's a charm!

While there doesn't appear to be much other context floating about at present, we're presenting brainstorming our favourite Y2K inspired looks to celebrate (LiLo's denim jacket is very much back in fashion, two decades on!). We can't wait to see what's ahead for the sequel.
