DIY Olaplex is trending on TikTok - and now Kourtney Kardashian is slathering it all over her hair.

For those of you who haven't tried it, Olaplex is literally the Holy Grail of haircare. The brand behind the breakthrough seven-step hair routine quickly became the hair treatment that top salons and beauty insiders couldn't live without when it first launched, and they've been slathering it all over their clients' hair ever since.

Olaplex products are loved by pretty much everyone for their ability to repair severely damaged hair that's coloured regularly (which is welcome news for those of us who bleach or dye our hair often) – as well as delivering a glossy, strengthening treatment to all hair types and textures, coloured or not.

Olaplex is a system that permanently rebuilds the damaged disulphide bonds in your hair that are broken during the chemical process. If you've over-bleached or had your hair highlighted for years, Olaplex allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of your hair; a 'reset' for your locks, if you will.

But at £26 a pop, it doesn't come cheap, which is why Kourtney Kardashian's DIY 3-step homemade Olaplex recipe has piqued our interest.

Writing on her wellness website, Poosh, Kourtney said: "Olaplex has amassed a loyal following because of its seemingly magical ability to smooth, soften, and strengthen damaged hair. But at $30 for 3.3 ounces, it’s not the most budget-friendly product on the market. Not to worry, though, because TikTok clued us into an easy, inexpensive hack to DIY our own Olaplex at home.

“The DIY Olaplex recipe calls for just two ingredients: water and flaxseed, boiled down to create a gel that can be applied to hair. Flaxseed is jam-packed with omega fatty acids and vitamin E, both of which are incredibly nourishing. For the Poosh touch, we added a few drops of Inala Power Potion because it contains rice water - one of our favourite ingredients for strengthening hair and promoting hair growth.”

So how do you make it? You literally need just three ingredients:

  1. ¼ cup flaxseeds
  2. 2 ½ cups water
  3. Inala Power Potion\

All you need to do to conjure up the recipe at home is combine the flaxseed and water in a pot, bring the mixture to a boil, whilst stirring frequently, and then when it reaches the consistency of egg whites, strain the mixture into a container using a cheesecloth. For the added Kardashian touch, mix in a few drops of Inala Power Potion.
