When it comes to timing with hair masks it's a case of 'the longer the better'. Leaving a mask on for a few hours will give it time to work its magic, working inside the cuticles and making the hair stronger. Wrapping your hair in cling film or a shower cap will work as an insulator, using your body's heat to seal in the moisture working its way into the cuticles. We've rounded up our favourite hair masks below…

Toners

These are kind of like a sheer semi permanent top coat used by colourists to correct or enhance your colour, and nudge it in the right direction – whether it be warmer, cooler, ashier or more golden.

As the weeks go by and your blonde will probably need some pigment adding in to eliminate any brassy undertones, which can be counteracted with a blue or purple shampoo. We love Redken's Colour Extend Blondage Purple Shampoo which will keep your blonde brighter, and is often even used in the salon. Top tip: only apply this onto the root area if the ends already have enough tone. If your hair doesn't need much tone or you have highlights, try mixing it with your regular shampoo.

For the golden girls, Christophe Robin's Shade Variation Mask in Golden Blonde will boost creamy/vanilla blonde shades.

Root coverage

If you're nearly due a touch-up but want to keep your roots looking freshly coloured for longer, Colour Wow has a root cover-up which can be painted on the hairline and brushed through the parting if you want to soften the blend.
