The best beauty TikTok Trends of 2022

TikTok made us buy it, use it, hack it and do it…
Best TikTok Beauty Trends of 2022

What a year it has been for TikTok Beauty. The app has people from all over the world, and from all ages scrolling for hours on end, but one thing TikTok users couldn't quite get enough of was beauty. #Beauty amassed a colossal 140.3 billion views the past year, with #skincare coming a close second with 138.4 billion views but #BeautyHacks at 22.4 billion views and #BeautyTrends at 231.5 million views is what defined what we were all really looking for.

Whether you wanted some inspiration for your passport photo look, resolving your dry skin woes, or plumping up your lips without going under the needle. There was something there for everybody.

If you're anything like us, your TikTok hours spent is probably a bit too embarrassing to share, but with that came great knowledge. This was the platform with no filter and no gatekeeping. Users openly shared their best tips, tricks and techniques, (whether it be for skin, hair, or makeup) so that we can all look our best selves, and the content did not disappoint.

Here are 9 of the most iconic TikTok beauty trends of 2022 ranked:

9. Hailey Bieber Nails (36.2 million views)

Some of us were obsessed with Hailey Bieber nails. The model had plenty of nail cam videos go viral. The most interesting part of it all was the simplicity of most of Hailey's nail looks. That light neutral gel base polish with a chrome powder gave the perfect glazed doughnut nails, and instantly NailTok was hooked. Sometimes less is more…

8. Skin Cycling (195.8 million views)

During the pandemic, there was a huge skincare boom, as we focused less on makeup and more on glowing, healthier skin. After all, we spent a lot of time in front of our phones and laptop cameras. However this carried right through to 2022 and as people became more cautious of what they were and weren't putting on their skin, they went to TikTok to find out more about it too. “The TikTok community loves a skincare overhaul, and 'Skin cycling' was a particularly popular one.” TikTok tells us.

The goal of a skin cycling routine is to create a four-step nightly skincare routine to help with uneven skin textures and breakouts. Giving you that glazed doughnut skin glow we were also so obsessed with.

7. Slugging (673.4 million views)

Slugging is a well-known K-Beauty-inspired moisturising technique that involves slathering the face with an occlusive product as the last step in your evening skincare routine to prevent dryness and protect your moisture barrier. TikTok got us really into it, and users saw major improvement on skin texture, hydration and overall appearance. Vaseline which once was a product many people to lips quickly became the it-girl of skincare products.

6. Glowy Skin (890.6 million views)

Glowy skin has been the goal all through 2022. This trend alone has inspired other micro trends that have blown up in the last few months, like #Glassskin, which goes hand in hand with the popular K-Beauty skincare hacks, to the adorable #ColdGirlMakeup, which sees girls giving inspo on how to do an aesthetically pleasing, snowy, cold weather makeup look. Not forgetting #passportphotomakeup, which give you slick, golden-hour makeup for your passport photo (because, let's be real, you're going to have to stick with it for many years to come).

5. Siren Eyes (822.1 million views)

This siren eyes vs doe eyes trend had us hooked. The siren side aimed to mimic the captivating look of a siren by creating an eye makeup look that draws people in. This trend featured a long, sharp wing that extends from the inner corners to the outer corners of the eye, this trend got all the TikTok baddies in a tight chokehold.

4. Euphoria Makeup (2.3 billion views)

Euphoria has been a major pop culture moment this year, inspiring fashion, makeup, and a community of dedicated fans. Aside from all the drama and the cast's distinctly un-teen-like antics, there's been an abundance of incredible makeup looks, so it was only a matter of time until TikTok got a hold of them. The hashtag #Euphoria has seen 55.7 billion views and counting, with recreations, skits and makeup transformations to match.

3. Halloween Makeup (10.1 billion views)

When it comes to one of the biggest beauty moments in the calendar, sure enough you'll find Halloween in there. TikTok tells us “Our community loves to share their favourite makeup transformations and costume looks.” That they do, as the hashtag has amassed an astronomical 10+ billion views and counting. From zombie brides, to halloween eyeliners or even to the ASMR removal videos, they lived for it all.

2. Glitter (13.4 billion views)

More broadly, glitter was incredibly popular in 2022, with #glittercutcrease and #glittermascara trending in the latter part of the year, where ethereal, starry-eyed makeup was and probably still is beauty’s calling card.

1. Wednesday (26 billion views)

Off the back of the release of the hit Netflix series 'Wednesday', people on TikTok have been going nuts for recreating both Wednesday Addams makeup and hair looks. In the show, Jenna Ortega is wearing smudged black eyeliner around her eyes and a deep plum lip colour on her lips. She pairs the beauty look with Wednesday’s signature long black braids, and that's exactly what the TikTok girlies are giving us.

A newcomer in the TikTok trending list is the rise of #whiteconcealer. “With over 7.7 million views it is fast becoming a TikTok makeup hack for all of us that struggle to find the perfect concealer skin tone match.” says TikTok. Drawing eyebrows are always a struggle unless, so it's only natural TikTok users would rush to the app to find hacks to make their brows look like the bushy and slick sisters they deserve to be.  “Our TikTok community has been using a new #Browmapping (104 million views) filter that uses the structure of your facial features to find the perfect placement for your eyebrows. By mapping your eyes, nose and cupids bow, this #Browfilter (86.2 million views) helps you achieve salon quality symmetry, and make sure your brows start and end in the most flattering place for your face shape.” says TikTok.

Baccarat Rouge 540

This perfume is not new but it sure did take the app by storm. How could we make a scent so popular just using visual and words? The reviews for this fragrance made waves on and off the app and it quickly amassed a cult following. With its warm woody base of cedarwood and fir resin, plus a dash of of jasmine and saffron spice, the scent pleasantly fills any room in an instant. If the perfumeTok says we have to have it, who are we to argue?

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum

This beauty corner of TikTok is a whole load of fun. We can't wait to see what it brings to us in 2023.
