If Nicola Walker has no fans, it's because I've shuffled off this mortal coil. Luckily, she's got plenty of fans – and her new series, Alice and Steve, is bound to delight them all. While Walker is best known for starring in hard-hitting dramas like Spooks, Unforgotten, and The Split, her new Disney+ series shows off her comedic side.
Fair warning, it's not all laughs. The premise of the show is about two best mates, Alice (Nicola Walker) and Steve (Jemaine Clement), whose friendship breaks down in a big way. Why? Because Steve starts dating Alice's 26-year-old daughter, Izzy. In fairness, I'd be raging too.
There's already plenty of buzz for the Disney+ original series, which has been selected to have its world premiere at the prestigious CANNESERIES festival later this year. BAFTA-winning director Tom Kingsley (Stath Lets Flats, This Is Going To Hurt) will direct the six-part series, which is written and executive produced by Sophie Goodhart (known for her work on Sex Education) and Clerkenwell Films (AKA the producers behind Baby Reindeer). Yep, Alice and Steve is shaping up to be a delicious watch.
Exclusive first-look at Alice and Steve
What is Alice and Steve about?
The official plot synopsis for Alice and Steve reads: “Alice is devastated when her best friend Steve starts dating her 26-year-old daughter, Izzy. She’s going to lose her best friend and her daughter in one fell swoop. Alice tries everything she can to end the relationship. Unfortunately for her, Steve’s more than ready for the attack, and what begins as a perfect friendship devolves into an all-out feud.”
On taking the role of Alice, Nicola Walker says: “I’m thrilled to be stepping into the fabulous world of friendship, motherhood, marriage, frantic revenge and fierce love that Sophie Goodhart has created, and to be doing it with Jemaine Clement is completely joyful!", while Clement adds, "Jemaine Clement adds “I really relate to Steve – he’s classy, stylish and an all-round good guy – except for when he isn’t. I’m excited to be working with the wonderful Nicola Walker and seeing how Steve and Alice’s relationship descends into absolute chaos.”
Another madcap murder mystery is coming our way.
