To celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of its most iconic shows, Disney is pulling back the curtain with Miley Cyrus, bringing us the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which explores the show's impact and offers viewers never-before-seen content from the original series.
"Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Cyrus said in a press release about the project. “The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is more than just an anniversary celebration for longtime fans of the show; to get fans into the spirit, Disney+ has released an official Hannah Montana Collection, not to mention a nonstop stream featuring all four seasons of Hannah Montana, as well as Hannah Montana: The Movie, and Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert.

When does the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special come out?
The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special premieres on Disney+ and Hulu on March 24, 2026. Does that date sound familiar? Well, it's exactly 20 years to the day that the original series debuted on Disney Channel! If you are wondering what specific time the special will come out, Disney+ typically releases new show episodes at 8 am GMT.
What will the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special be about?
The project has been described as a celebration of “the iconic series that defined a generation" and “a love letter to fans filled with heartfelt nostalgia.” Disney has confirmed that the special was filmed in front of a live studio audience, much like the original show.
The special features an exclusive, in-depth interview with Miley Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper. Per Disney, “the conversation will offer an intimate look at the creation of one of pop culture’s most iconic characters and the lasting impact the show and character have had on fans around the world.”
We also know that Cyrus will revisit key moments, music, and memories from her time as Hannah Montana, and we will be privy to “never-before-seen archival footage” from the set. And you can expect some of the show's most memorable sets to return. Among the already confirmed sets are the family living room in the Stewarts' house and Hannah's closet. Disney has also confirmed the special will also feature an exclusive musical performance by Miley Cyrus.
Who will appear in the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special?
As confirmed by the teasers and announcements we've gotten so far, Miley Cyrus will be the centre star of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. We also know the special will be hosted by Call Her Daddy co-creator and interviewer Alex Cooper. However, Disney has also said to expect “familiar faces and surprise guests,” which makes sense given this is a retrospective after all.
Hannah Montana, as a franchise, featured an ensemble cast that included Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, Jason Earles, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Moisés Arias. The show also featured a handful of guest stars, including Dolly Parton, the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Jesse McCartney and seemingly countless others.
She also set the record straight once and for all on their “estrangement.”
As confirmed by the trailer, which you can watch below, some of the guest stars confirmed ahead of the premiere are Miley Cyrus's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who also played her father on Hannah Montana, as well as her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, who also serves as an executive producer for the project.

Yes! Disney unveiled the trailer for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special on March 17, just a week before the special's premiere.
The trailer, which you can watch above, opens with Miley Cyrus riding a black Ford Mustang convertible with the license plate “HM 20” pulling up to the Stage 9 at a studio lot as radio snippets and The Best of Both Worlds, Hannah Montana's opening theme song, play faintly in the background. “Good to be home,” Cyrus shares. (Fun fact: The original show was filmed at the Sunset Bronson Studios in Los Angeles!)
The trailer gives us a peek at Cyrus revisiting the sets and her interview with Cooper — spoiler alert: we will talk about childhood crushes. We also see Miley interacting with the crowd and singing The Climb and The Best of Both Worlds.
Are there any first-look photos for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special?
So far, Disney has only released the trailer and official poster for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special; however, on February 22, Miley Cyrus was spotted in Malibu wearing her full Hannah Montana gear and surrounded by a camera crew while filming content for the upcoming special. Fans immediately noticed Cyrus was clad in not only the character's blonde wig, but also, apparently, archival pieces from the show, specifically Hannah Montana's thin scarf from her This Is the Life performance and her large shield-style sunglasses.
