We'd be lying if we said we hadn't enjoyed the permanent tracksuit situation of the last nine (or is it ten?) weeks, but as lockdown continues to drag on we're beginning to grow a little tired of them. Okay, not of "them", but certainly of trying to get them washed and dried before Monday rolls around again. Why are they so unresponsive to the tumble dryer?
As we removed the last load from the drum this weekend and idly watched the cuffs as they dripped monotonously onto the floor beneath the rack, we reminisced about a time long ago when we made use of other cycles. Delicates, cool washes, wool washes... those were the days. Real clothes. Annoying care labels. We wondered when we might begin to wear real clothes again.
And then BAM - as if it was listening to our innermost mundane thoughts - Zara dropped its new collection, and our little sartorial hearts fluttered for the first time in about 56 days.
Bursting with the most deliciously, zesty hues and fairweather design details - we're talking tasseled fringing in apple green, crisp white floral appliqués and turned-up tangerine jeans - it's everything our wardrobe has been crying out for.
What's more, these aren't pieces to be bought and kept for post-lockdown parties. Sure you can wear them then too, but this collection is in fact a perfectly-timed smorgasbord of loose, comfortable silhouettes that are ideal for what looks set to be another few weeks spent confined to our homes.
