The pretty pair earned a pretty penny – the rights for the first images of the twins were sold to People Magazine for $14m, making them the most expensive celebrity pictures ever taken.

PA PhotosTragedy struck Jennifer Hudson in October when her mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew were found shot dead at the family’s home in Chicago. The estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia has been arrested in connection with the murders.

PA PhotosAnne Hathaway’s goody-goody image was slightly tainted in June when Raffaello Follieri, her boyfriend of four years, was arrested on suspicion of fraud. Anne seemed as surprised as anyone by the turn of events and said she “spent a week in shock". The pair split and Raffaello was jailed for four and a half years.

At the end of the six-day hearing, the former model, who walked away with £24m, calmly poured a jug of water of the head of McCartney’s solicitor Fiona Shackleton and said: "You're a bitch! You're a traitor to your sex! How could you do this to another woman?"
PA PhotosIn October Angelina Jolie admitted that she fell for Brad Pitt on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, implying that Brangelina got together while Brad was still Mr Aniston. A war of words followed with Jennifer Aniston calling Angelina “uncool” and Brad allegedly telephoning his ex-wife to complain. Who knows what happened but a few old wounds were reopened in the process.

Rex FeaturesLindsay Lohan has had her fair share of romances over the years but in 2008, she only had eyes for DJ Samantha Ronson. Throughout the summer the pair were spotted getting cosy and, in December, Lindsay seemed to confirm what everyone was thinking: "I think it's pretty obvious who I'm seeing… She's a wonderful person and I love her very much."
