10 supermodels in the making

London Fashion Week begins this Friday, where a new generation of models will be given their time to shine.

New York kickstarted the month-long show season last week and is ahead of the casting game once again, setting new standards by encouraging diversity. It's a subject that's gathered momentum over the past few seasons - the autumn/winter 2015 shows started off with a modern line-up of new faces representing cultural diversity of our generation.

The catwalks, which were previously dominated with white models, started to represent a mix of ethnicities, celebrating individuality and multi-racial beauty. The catwalks of Zac Posen, Derek Lam and Alexander Wang debuted girls such as Londone Myers and Dilone amongst Asian beauties Sora Choi, Wangy and the ultimate Jing Wen.

We were happy to see this evolution last spring/summer, where for the first time ever, the Dominican model Lineisy Montero walked in 68 high-profile shows. This season, we watched girls of the moment, Yasmin Wijndalum and Alice Metza assuming the prestige position of opening and closing shows, carefully chosen by designers who they feel represent their vision and collection best.

It'll be exciting to see who will get that chance this season in Europe's Fashion Week cities. We hope this multi-ethinicity celebration doesn't come and go with the seasons, but rather becomes a new industry standard that is well respected and implemented across the fashion world.
