Met Gala 2019: All the dresses, drama and details from the most stylish soirée of the year

Lady Gaga kicked off proceedings with a pink cape dress with a bow and 25-foot train before unzipping it to reveal a figure-hugging black number, then a pink offering followed by a crystal bra and knickers. Kween.

The most exclusive invite in the fashion calendar sees the biggest names in fashion, film, music and art descend on the event to raise money for the Met's Costume Institute and to celebrate its blockbuster exhibition.

Now in it's 71st year, this year's Met Gala is bigger and more glamorous than ever. From Celine Dion in Oscar de la Renta to Harry Styles looking like an absolute snack in Gucci, the stars really upped the ante for this year's event.

Who is hosting the Met Gala 2019?

The event is being hosted by the grande dame of fashion, US Vogue editor and artistic director of Condé Nast, Anna Wintour, as well as Harry Styles, Serena Williams and Lady Gaga.

It's basically the whose who of Hollywood at the best party of the year.

When is the Met Gala 2019?

The Met Gala takes place on the first Monday in May, which will be May 6th this year. All the best red carpet coverage starts rolling at 7pm local time so keep your eyes pealed.

Where does the Met Gala take place?

The Met Gala is held at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Lucky guests sashay down the red carpet and enjoy a cocktail reception before perusing the new exhibition and enjoying a sit-down dinner plus live performances and, of course, one hell of a party.

What's the 2019 Met Gala Theme?

As the Met Gala marks the opening night of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit, the theme of the exhibition sets the tone for the event and invitees have to dress accordingly.

The Met Gala 2019 theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion." American Vogue editor Anna Wintour gave us a glimpse of what to expect at a conference in February when she said "basically, we go from sun kings to drag queens". Meanwhile Andrew Bolton, curator of the exhibition, said he felt 'it would have a lot of cultural resonance.” Interesting!

In 2017, the theme was 'Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons' - in homage of (you guessed it) Rei Kawakubo, the fashion designer of the avant-garde Japanese label, Comme des Garçons, and the celebrities dressed the red carpet in an array of bold hues.

We are still all marvelling at the fashion from 2017's Met Gala - as guests came and tried their hand at the Rei Kawakubo theme (with Rihanna nailing it completely).

2018's event saw the theme "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" taken on by the institute. The actual exhibition showcased a dialogue between iconic fashion pieces and religious art - from paintings to the real papal attire on loan from the Sistine Chapel sacristy and the outfits were certainly high and mighty.

What beauty looks did we see?

Lady Gaga may have stolen the show with her sartorial statement on the Met Gala 2019 red carpet but it's hard to ignore the incredible haul of beauty inspo the stars served up, too.

Whether it's Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's incredibly chic chignon or Hailey Bieber's impeccable makeup, there were so many beauty looks to marvel at.
