The surprising reason you'll never see Meghan Markle in flats

Newlywed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are our favourite couple of the moment (slash ever), but as they stepped onto the pitch at Dublin’s Croke Park earlier this week, everyone was wondering the same thing - why was Meghan wearing stilettos?

While we admire her bravery for effortlessly walking across the grass in the spiky heels, we can't help but think she would have been much comfier sporting a pair of trainers, but it turns out there is a good reason we rarely see the Duchess without heels.

Meghan stands at 5ft 6in, while Harry towers over her at 6ft 1in, or a massive seven inches taller, so she always opts for a higher heel to maximise her height and avoid creating an ‘unbalanced’ look in pictures. She’s so devoted.

Celebrity photographer Glenn Gratton told MailOnline: "Couples with a big height difference look slightly unbalanced in pictures, and often the smaller of the two ends up looking even smaller and is constantly looking up at their partner.

"In the case of Harry and Meghan, she will be wearing high heels to maximise her height and shorten the gap if possible."

Meghan also dresses to her advantage, wearing high waisted, midi pencil skirts that create long, clean lines.

"Careful use of wardrobe choices will be important for Harry and Meghan to make the couples height difference is minimised,' Glenn added. "The shape of skirts will also give the optical illusion to make her look taller than she actually is."

Sister-in-law Kate Middleton is often seen sporting loafers or trainers to more casual affairs, as she is above-average height for a woman at 5ft 10in, so there is much less of a difference between her and William, who is 6ft 2in.
