The hottest high fashion trainers to add to your wish list (including Beyoncé's controversial new collab with Adidas)

Fashion trainers are somewhat of a self-contradictory term. When you think of trainers you think of the easy kicks you throw on without a thought and don't bat an eye if they get the odd scuff mark. But throw in a big designer logo (and several more ££s) and you've got yourself a bit of a conundrum. Think less slip-on-and-pop-to-the-shops and more keep-them-in-bubble-wrap-and-barely-dare-to-wear.

Yup - leisure shoes have gotten THAT fancy. (And we're only sort of exaggerating...).

And while sneakers are well and truly back in the fashion industry's good books, it's not only the sparkling white ones that are adorning the feet of the sartorially savvy.

Louis Vuitton's bold, arched, grey and black futuristic-looking trainer has made serious waves in recent seasons, while the likes of Gucci and Alexander McQueen have created slightly less punchy but equally brilliant takes on the chunky trainer.

No doubt one of AW20's biggest trainer launches, though, comes courtesy of a slightly more unexpected source. She's got just about everything else on her CV, so we probably should've seen a Beyoncé trainer collaboration coming.

Teaming up with adidas Originals for the brand's fiftieth anniversary of its iconic Superstar sneaker, Beyoncé reimagined the much-loved shape - as opposed to merely adding some design details to the existing silhouette in the way of previous reiterations - via some bold angles.

And while many fans immediately fell in love with the unexpected new aesthetic, inevitably some shoppers were thrown by the edits and took to social media to share their thoughts on the new perspective.
