What is a mastectomy bra?

A mastectomy bra is specifically designed for anyone who has had surgery on their breast/s and has had one or more removed. They are non-wired to be especially gentle on scar tissue, but are more than wireless bras or sleep bras, and tend to feature pockets in the cups which can hold a prosthesis in place - should you choose to wear one.

What should I wear after a single mastectomy or double mastectomy?

You can wear a mastectomy bra or a bra without an underwire right after surgery as long as there is no pressure to drain the site, but you might choose not to - and that’s totally fine. There is no timestamp as to how long it’ll take for your body (or you) to recover after a mastectomy - the main thing is that you allow yourself to heal. A lot of people find they take around two to three weeks to heal in terms of wounds, but your chest and arm area will be bruised, swollen and stiff for a while.

What is the best bra after mastectomy?

In the first year or so after a mastectomy or lumpectomy, it’s best to opt for bras that have soft seams, a wide underband, a deep front and side panels, full cups, adjustable straps, no wires and minimal detailing to avoid discomfort.
