Who are the Lionesses? Meet the 23 women representing England at the Euros 2025

The Lionesses are back in action and, boy, have we missed them. After a historic win at the European Championships in 2022, the England squad faced heartbreak at the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023, narrowly losing out to Spain. Now, it's time to settle the score at the UEFA 2025 Women's European Championships, which is taking place across Switzerland.
While you can expect to see some familiar faces at this year's champs – Lucy Bronze, you have my heart forever – there's plenty of fresh blood on the squad. After Mary Earpes announced her international retirement earlier this year, all eyes are on Chelsea's Hannah Hampton, who is all too capable of filling Mary's enormous boots. We're also hugely excited about Arsenal's Michelle Agyemang's call-up. The 19-year-old has already scored on her senior England debut, and we're rooting for her to find the back of the net again – ideally against Spain.
When do the England women play next?
Saturday 5th July: France v England at 20:00 on ITV1
Wednesday 9th July: England v Netherlands at 17:00 on BBC One
Sunday 13th July: England v Wales at 20:00 on ITV1.
We'll keep this page updated if (and hopefully when!) England gets through to the knock-out rounds.
Who is in the England Women's Squad?
Pat Elmont - UEFAKhiara Keating
When GLAMOUR asked the England squad who is most likely to go on Love Island, the answers were unanimous: Khiara Keating. This is the first major tournament for the Manchester City goalie. Not to mention a fantastic opportunity for her to debut as England Women’s first senior mixed-race goalkeeper.
Words of wisdom: “Being from an ethnic minority myself, there is a gap, but it is getting filled. Now there are more little girls from ethnic minorities who we are inspiring to chase their dreams.” Via The Telegraph.
Pat Elmont - UEFAHannah Hampton
The natural successor to Mary Earpes, Hannah Hampton is primed to take centre stage as England's number one goalkeeper at the Euros 2025. She has 16 caps to her name – not to mention eight clean sheets. Hannah was born with strabismus, a rare eye condition that impacts depth perception.
Words of wisdom: “I want to change people’s mindsets because I was told I wasn’t supposed to be playing football, but I am, and I’m at one of the highest levels you can be at. There’s always hope.” Via iNews.
Pat Elmont - UEFAAnna Moorhouse
Anna Moorhouse is a goalkeeper for Orlando Pride, where she played every game of the 2024 season, setting a league record for clean sheets in the process. She is still waiting on her first cap for the senior England squad, but with a record like that? Soon come.
Words of wisdom: “Back when I was growing up and coming through youth systems, you didn’t have a goalkeeper coach, so you’re trying to play this position without any real coaching. Now, the girls that are coming through are having that specialised coaching, so the standard of goalkeepers coming through is really good.” Via The Guardian.
Pat Elmont - UEFALucy Bronze
Where to even begin with Lucy Bronze? The Chelsea defender has made over 100 appearances for England; this will be her seventh major tournament and her fourth consecutive European Championship. She has written a powerful essay for Glamour UK about societal attitudes to refugee women and girls.
Words of wisdom: “Women and girls especially find themselves more often underestimated and constrained by norms, and as a result are less able to dream. Yet sport, and football in particular, is stepping up as a beacon of hope, offering them a chance to embrace a brighter future.”
Pat Elmont - UEFANiamh Charles
Niamh Charles is one to watch. The Chelsea full-back made her first senior England debut at the Women's World Cup in Australia 2023. Niamh has powerfully spoken out about her mental health, saying she “struggled mentally” on her way to the top of professional football.
Words of wisdom: “In the last few years, there have been times when I have struggled mentally. There are times when I’ve needed help, and thankfully, I got help and spoke to someone.” Via Standard Sport.
Pat Elmont - UEFAAlex Greenwood
Another stalwart of the England squad, Alex Greenwood brings experience, technical ability, and class to the team. The Manchester City defender was part of the Lyon squad that won the Champions League in 2020.
Words of wisdom: “The biggest thing for me is that it’s not specifically women’s or men’s football, it’s just football. Our aim is always to inspire everyone of all ages and genders and I think our impact so far has been successful.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAMaya Le Tissier
Maya Le Tissier may be the captain of Manchester United now, but in 2018, she made history as the first female player to play for the Guernsey Under-16 boys' team. And making history is clearly her thing. Last year, she became the youngest player, then aged 22, to reach 100 WSL appearances.
Words of wisdom: “It is really good to be a role model for girls and boys back in the Channel Islands because they don’t get that many opportunities to show what they are about.”
Pat Elmont - UEFA /Getty ImagesEsme Morgan
Undisputed queen of making friendship bracelets and picking out the perfect pass, Esme Morgan is on the cusp of greatness for England. The Washington Spirit defender has made 14 appearances for her country and will be hoping to earn some more game time in Switzerland.
Words of wisdom: “I just want to take on as much information as I can and try to be the best player I can be.”
Pat Elmont - UEFALeah Williamson
She needs no introduction, but we'll do our best. Leah Williamson is the captain of Arsenal, as well as England, and is fresh off the bat of leading her club to victory in the Champions League. When she's not leading her team to victory, Leah can be found fronting fashion and beauty campaigns, speaking out on women's and LGBT+ rights, and errm, training as an accountant. Worrah woman.
Words of wisdom: “If you want to become a woman footballer, you don’t have to be a rebel these days. You can just follow your feet.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAGrace Clinton
Remember Grace Clinton's name; she is one of England's brightest future stars. The Manchester United midfielder has scored three goals across 11 appearances for England – one of which was less than 20 minutes into her debut. One to keep an eye on…
Words of wisdom: I'm at an age now where I should be proving myself. I like that pressure — it pushes me to perform." Via Versus.
Pat Elmont - UEFAJess Park
A Yorkshire girl, Jess Park is another young star of tomorrow (and hopefully even today) of the senior England squad. Our fave Jess Park moment so far? When the Manchester City midfielder scored against Spain – AKA England's arch rivals – during a UEFA Nations League game earlier this year.
Words of wisdom: “It’s been brilliant to be a part of the Lionesses, to be in that environment is just a brilliant thing for my career and learning.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAElla Toone
Are you a real England fan if you don't belt out, ‘TOOOOONAYYYY!’ every time Ella Toone walks on the pitch? The Manchester United midfielder has bounced back from injury to play her second Euros – and we're already bracing for impact.
Words of wisdom: “Equal opportunity and an equal playing field to the men is something that we'll keep fighting for in women's sport.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAMichelle Agyemang
Some players might need a while to settle into their first international debut. Not Michelle Agyemang, who scored just 41 seconds into her first game wearing an England shirt. Did someone say, ‘super-sub’?
Words of wisdom: “It’s an honour to represent my country. No matter where it is or what age group.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAAggie Beever-Jones
Aggie Beever-Jones is a midfielder for Chelsea, where she's had an undeniable impact. Case in point? She ended the 2023-24 season with 11 goals and the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the Women's Super League.
Words of wisdom: “The main thing for me is focusing on the performances and not getting too caught up on the goals because they’re just bonuses - that’s how I look at it.” Via Sky Sports.
Pat Elmont - UEFALauren James
Oh LJ. Beloved by her teammates and fans alike, Lauren James is tipped to make an instant impact at the Euros 2025. The Chelsea midfielder previously spoke to Glamour about how she's motivating more girls from marginalised backgrounds to get into football.
Words of wisdom: “We're all footballers, and we're all trying to achieve and do the same thing, so we should all be treated the same.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAChloe Kelly
Chloe Kelly is Arsenal's latest power signing after proactively forging a move to the club from Manchester City earlier this year. Since then, she's added a Champions League trophy to her ever-growing list of achievements, which – by the way – includes a Glamour cover interview.
Words of wisdom: “I train my body to perform, not to look good. But looking good is always a bonus.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAAlessia Russo
It's fair to say that Alessia Russo is one of England's star players. Should you need proof, watch her gorgeous back-heel nutmeg goal against Sweden during the last Euros in 2022. It's pretty special – and we can't wait for more.
Words of wisdom: “One of my passions is keeping girls in sport. I'm trying to do as much as I can for that. I feel I have a responsibility to play well, to keep things moving for women's football, to keep making things better for the next generation.” Via GQ.
Pat Elmont - UEFALotte Wubben-Moy
Lotte Wubben-Moy is a defender for Arsenal and – according to the Lionesses – one of the most intelligent players on the squad. In fact, many of them told Glamour that they can see her as the next Prime Minister. After England won the Euros in 2022, she wrote a letter to then-PM hopefuls Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, calling for all girls to have access to football during their school PE lessons. That's MY Prime Minister, alright.
Words of wisdom: “That’s how I view football — it’s an opportunity to share and give to others. When I feel most full, empowered and emboldened to be myself, that’s when I can put out the best performances. Ultimately, that warrants respect and not being taken for granted.” Via The Athletic.
Pat Elmont - UEFAKeira Walsh
If we had our way, Keira Walsh would have won the Ballon d'Or Féminin at least five times by now. Whenever she falls over, you can hear the stomachs of England fans drop across the country. Protect her at all costs. Keira Walsh currently plays as a midfielder for Chelsea.
Words of wisdom: “I don’t need to feel nervous. I am here playing for the five or six-year-old girl who just loved playing football with friends.” Via England Football.
Pat Elmont - UEFALauren Hemp
Lauren Hemp is a forward for Manchester City and has been a regular on the England squad since the Phil Neville days in 2019. She started every game of the Euros in 2022and will be expecting to make a similar impact this time around.
Words of wisdom: “It’s so amazing that there's now young girls and boys speaking about women's football – it's not just men's football, it is both.” Via GQ.
Pat Elmont - UEFABeth Mead
Beth Mead is one of the most recognisable faces on the senior England squad – and with good reason. She won the Golden Boot during England's successful Euros campaign in 2022 and was named Player of the Tournament – the first player of any gender to receive both plaudits at a major tournament. She has since been a passionate advocate for gender equality, most recently fighting the stigma surrounding periods.
Words of wisdom: “We’re trying to make [periods] normal. It happens. It’s not to be made fun of. It’s something we want girls to be comfortable with.”
Pat Elmont - UEFAJess Carter
Jess Carter is a defender for the American side, Gotham FC. She has made 45 appearances for England, not to mention two lovely goals, and will be looking to boost her tallies at this year's tournament. She is engaged to the Germany goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. Yet another reason to avoid a penalty shoot-out.
Words of wisdom: “For me, the most basic thing is getting equal access for everyone. Whether you’re from a small village like me, whether you’re from the biggest city, everyone needs to have an opportunity to play football. There need to be more coaches, more scouts, more people wanting to help and more facilities available.” Via British Vogue.
Pat Elmont - UEFAGeorgia Stanway
When Glamour went to St James Park to catch up with the Lionesses ahead of the Euros, we asked some serious sporting questions. Like, ‘Who is most likely to get a tattoo?' during the tournament. The England squad was unanimous: Georgia Stanway. The Bayern Munich midfielder is known for her technical skill, her on-field partnership with Keira Walsh, and the odd yellow card, or two. Are you not entertained?
Words of wisdom: “With tattooing and football, perfection is impossible. It’s helping me to realise human error is allowed.” Via The Telegraph.
