Sticky bra FAQs, answered:

What are the benefits of a sticky bra over a multi-way style?

“The advantage of a multi-way bra is given away in the name,” says Zoe Price-Smith, Boux Avenue's Chief Design and Product Officer. "You can wear them multiple ways: with straps, without, cross over for racerback style tops, etc.

"A multi-way bra is usually constructed with a wider underband that adds extra support needed to the bust when wearing the bra without any straps. The only disadvantage of a multiway bra is that you can’t wear backless tops or dresses without the underband being visible, and this is where sticky bras come in as a lingerie staple.

“A sticky bra has no back and attaches to the bust by sticking to the skin (hence the name), giving subtle lift and modesty to the bust, ensuring a seamless and polished look to your outfit.”

Do sticky bras work for large breasts?

“Yes, it is possible to wear stick-on bras if you have a larger bust size,' reassures Zoe. ”I would recommend going with an underwired style with extended side wings (the side wings are adhesive). This will offer a better lift and support than silicone gel adhesive cup styles.

“It is important to remember, though, that a stick-on bra will not offer the same amount of support as a balconette or multi-way bra due to the lack of an underband.”

She cotinues: “So, yes, you can definitely wear one when heading out to dinner, or for a few drinks for a few hours, but you definitely won't have motion control over the bust if you were to go for a highly active dance session or run a marathon whilst wearing a stick-on-bra — this can also lead to skin irritation, which no one wants.”

How do you put on a sticky bra correctly?

Applying a sticky bra correctly is key to getting the best fit and support. Thankfully, Zoe walks us through exactly how to get yourself into one:

  1. Start with clean, dry skin. Avoid moisturisers, oils, or fake tan as sticky bras and slippery skin don’t mix.
  2. Apply one cup at a time. Position the cup starting from underneath the breast, lifting gently as you press it into place.
  3. Adjust and smooth. Once both cups are on, press down firmly and smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles.

“As a stick-on bra works by silicone adhesive to the skin to avoid any irritation, we recommend not wearing one for more than 4 to 6 hours and allow your skin to breathe for a minimum of 72 hours between each wear.” Noted.

How I test the best sticky bras:

It really is as simple as wearing a bra multiple times during a month — and at various points in my cycle, considering that often sways my size — to see how it fares. This includes wearing each bra for a few hours, under various items of clothing, to see if it stays put and provides suitable support.

For context, each sticky bra was scored against the following criteria:

FunctionalityDid the sticky bra stay put, provide some support and give me the desired shape? Did I have any issues in terms of slipping, twisting or irritation?
DesignIs the bra aesthetic and comfortable? How many options do I have in terms of colour and pattern? And what was each bra made of — is the material sustainable and breathable?
Price pointWould I be willing to spend that much again? Is it good quality?
DeliveryHow quickly did the bra arrive, and what were the associated costs?

Unsurprisingly, only the bras that impressed made it into this edit. However, I also tried the following, which sadly didn't meet my standards:

In terms of what I'm currently testing, stay tuned for these reviews:

Why you can trust me:

I've been reviewing underwear, shapewear, activewear, and wellness products, including cotton underwear, sports bras, and period pants, for almost three years — that's one year at Women's Health and 17 months at Glamour. During that time, I've seen countless trends and advancements, as well as a boom in our options.

To ensure I am an authority on functional fashion and menstrual health, I regularly attend press launches, read the latest journals, and interview sportwear designers, gynaecologists, women's health experts and brand founders, asking for their insight and wellness tips. I also personally review as many new releases as possible. Ahead of my summer holidays, I've been reviewing sticky bras from the likes of Boux Avenue, Lounge, H&M and Wonderbra to see which supports my 34DD chest best. As such, you could say I'm more clued up on the best cotton underwear than your average online shopper.
