25 best hen do outfits that will take you from cocktails to karaoke

Hands up who else is in their hen party era? Alongside all those wedding guest ‘save the dates’ in our inboxes are the hen party invitations, leaving a trail of glitter behind them. And you know what that means – we need to plan our best hen do outfits. Bigger than the average girl’s night out, a hen do requires every member of ‘team bride’ to look their very best – whether you're a bridesmaid, Maid of Honour or bestie. While you won’t want to overshadow the bride herself, you will want everyone to know you’re part of her squad. And so begins the search for the best party looks.
Many a bridal shower will opt for a fancy dress theme – or at least go all-out with accessories such as phallic straws, gimmicky veils and shot glass necklaces, a key part of the silly hen fun IMO. But you’ll most likely be given free rein when it comes to your outfit. The bride will, of course, be searching for hen party white dresses, but the sartorial requirements are much less strict for you.
What do people wear to a hen do?
Depending on the day’s activities, it’s wise to go for something that’s suitable for both day and night so that you’re comfortable hopping from one venue to the next. Whether you're opting for a sparkly jumpsuit or mini dress, a blazer or jacket can always be added to dress the look down during the day. The itinerary could be a silent disco one hour and pottery painting the next so it's good to be prepared. Having said that, a bachelorette is a special occasion, so don’t dwell on it too much. Standing out is part of the fun and can be a real bonding experience, especially if you're meeting some of the bride's other friends and family for the first time.
The go-to hen party accessories
One thing's for sure, hen party dresses are not complete without accessories. When it comes to accessorising, go big or go home. From best-selling slogan caps and heart sunglasses to personalised bow clip veils for the bride-to-be and sashes and sparkly shoes that were made for dancing in while you belt your chosen karaoke song, nothing is off-limits. We'll see you up there for a rendition of Wannabe by the Spice Girls.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to buy everything new, though; you could dig out a nice top that you already own and pair it with some daring bottoms or your favourite mini skirt. These H&M sequin trousers are exactly the right vibe for a hen do. Pair with the matching top if you want to go all out.
Looking for a dress you can rewear? Pretty Lavish is the brand to know for versatile occasionwear (we also really rate the brand for bridesmaid dresses if you're on the bridal squad, too). This midaxi dress is ideal for wearing at a hen party drinks now and restyling for a summer wedding later – if it's different guests, no one will know it's seen one bride's night out before it's seen another's nuptials. It's finished somewhere between a midi and maxi dress length, with a flattering high neckline and backless cut for a showstopping look.
And, don't forget, you can't go wrong with sequins. Whether you're looking for a high-street pick like this ARRANGE gold piece or are splashing the cash on something like this Clio Peppiatt mini, nothing beats a bit of sparkle. Whatever your look, add some dramatic heels, whether you prefer a slingback, block heel or mules – a hen party is the ultimate GNO after all.
