Everyone's asking for the 'hacked bob' in hair salons, because it's a more rebellious take on the short chop
Summer's over, it's back to work season and now that lots of us are needed back in the office again, we want a fierce new cut for our grand re-entrance – one that's both autumn appropriate and spectacularly chic. As a result? We’re ready for a dramatic chop.
“I’ve noticed client’s have been much more open to change,” confesses top hair stylist, Luke Hersheson. “There’s been quite a lot of embracing more drastic styles,” he adds.
From the rodeo bob to the Tinkerbelle crop.

But between the French bob, the shattered bob and the blunt bob, the question is: where do we go next?
“A lot of people have been requesting bobs that are blunter and chunkier,” explains Luke. “They feel a bit more rebellious and casual, like they’ve been hacked with a knife. It’s that balance between not being a meticulously neat Sassoon bob, [which follows a scrupulously straight line], and something a bit messier,” he adds. The answer? The hacked bob. It hangs like a ledge, only not too perfect. It feels more undone,” explains Luke.
A cut your split ends can appreciate, it’s a fresh change that feels nice and relaxed, but a bit sexy, too.
The trick is to have some pieces looking slightly jagged – the aim of the cut is to look effortless, like you hacked it all off on a whim, Mulan-style, and we all know she’s a badass. The benefit is that this choppier shape can help to make hair look even thicker and healthier thanks to skimming off any wispy bits.
To really maximise the cut, play the shape up with your styling. Use a paste and texturising spray to rough it up and add to the pieciness, then use your fingers to muss it up at the roots to add volume. Pretty sultry, we reckon.
