Frances Bean Cobain: Style CV

This rock 'n' roll royalty is one to watch - check out her kooky 90s revival style here
PA PhotosBeing the daughter of one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most famous couples is like a free pass to instant cool – which is why we’ve been keeping a watchful eye on Frances Bean Cobain of late. Offspring of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and rock queen Courtney Love, 17-year-old Frances has been working her own version of the grunge look her parents pioneered back in the 90s. We spotted her in New York last week in a pair of denim hotpants, layered over some very fashion-forward lace tights. The finishing touch? Ruby red lippie.
WENNPrincess of the pale skin look, Frances Bean contrasts her light complexion with a shock of red hair and a fire engine red pout – and rocks a hippy dress with tan accessories.
Rex FeaturesIn the true spirit of 90s revival, Frances Bean shows off her penchant for knee high boots in these red leather beauties.
Rex FeaturesWhile she keeps her off-duty look deliberately rough around the edges, Frances Bean knows how to glam up red carpet style. At last year’s Twilight premiere she donned this sugary sweet bow-print dress with Chanel-esque monochrome Mary Janes.
Rex FeaturesThe fashion world’s been watching Frances Bean for a while now – she’s pictured here outdoing Teen Vogue editor Amy Astley in the style stakes last year in this checkered skirt and cropped PVC jacket.
Rex FeaturesCourtney Love might not be making it into any Best Dressed lists any time soon, but thankfully Frances Bean doesn’t look like she’s following her famous mother’s wardrobe lead. The two walked hand in hand down the red carpet at last year’s Grammys, with Frances Bean in this show-stopping red pea coat.
PA PhotosAdd a trilby hat to a simple monochrome combination of silk shirt and skinny black pants, et voilá, Frances Bean masters a classic rock ‘n’ roll look.
Big PicturesWatching a celebrity’s style change over the years is always interesting – especially when they start so young. Pre her style savvy, Frances Bean was sporting a more polished (and more generic) young Hollywood, including some dubious hair extensions and a hu-uge oversized Chanel tote.
PA PhotosAt the tender age of 15, Frances Bean held her ma’s hand as they attended the Rodeo Walk of Style Awards in 2007. But rather than plumping for a cringe-worthy, look-at-me cocktail dress, the fledgling fashionista chose an uncomplicated plain black gown.
PA PhotosR.E.M’s Michael Stipe is her godfather and Drew Barrymore is her godmother (could this girl get any more A-list?!), and having a mega-famous family means sitting front row at fashion week is second nature. Frances Bean went pretty in polka dots back in 2006 – we’re just waiting to see what she does next.
Bigpicturesphoto.comOnce again rocking her signature look – grungy floral maxi, red lips and tan leather accessories – Frances Bean looked pretty as a picture when she took her pooch for a walk with a friend in 2009.
Rex FeaturesIt’s not often that we see Frances Bean posing with Courtney Love, but when she does… what a statement they make! We love the way Francis has adapted her mother’s 90s style and kept it cool and relevant to a new generation of teens. At Another magazine party in 2009, she stunned the crowds in this fitted floral dress and clashing shoes, topped off, of course, with a red lip and a scarlet bob.
WennTalk about an accessory! Frances Bean looked great in this floral midi dress, tan sandals and gothic cross necklace, but we have to admit, it’s not her we’re paying attention to in this picture. Check out that guy on her arm! Francis’ date was equally stylish and gorgeous when they attended the 2010 Coachella music festival in California together. Oh to be the daughter of rock royalty…
WennFrances Bean is well known for wearing grungey, muted tones accented by her punkish red hair and ruby lips, so it’s great to see her stepping out of her comfort zone with bright florals, like the scallop-hemmed dress she wore when out with friends in Manhattan in 2009.
WennLike any girl worth her fashion salt, Frances Bean is no stranger to stealing a few items from her boyfriend’s wardrobe. In September 2010, she rocked the same eagle T-shirt her fella wore to Coachella, and accessorized it with rosary beads, a black jacket, black chunky boots and a pair of pattern-detailed tights for an edgy spin on it.
