If you’re looking for a hard-working spring outfit ideas, let dungarees be the latest addition to your wardrobe. Seriously, they suit every style, work for loads of occasions and making getting dressed in the morning a breeze.

Like a jumpsuit or a dress, wearing one statement piece will take away any early morning outfit angst. Unlike dresses or jumpsuits (and depending on the weather) you will probably need to slip a top under your dungas (and add a shacket) but it’s a simple addition. So, what are the ways to wear this style staple for 2022? We particularly love dungarees worn over a Victorian-style lace-detailed blouse, to showcase the contrast between tough workwear and delicate femininity. Try a khaki pair for a totally on-trend outfit… Dungarees and a stripy t-shirt are a match made in heaven, particularly in you’re heading for a day at the seaside, although think beyond the classic blue Breton and mix it up in red, yellow or black stripes. On hotter days, wear your dungarees over a bright bra or a simple tank top with sandals.

Don’t ever think that dungarees only come in one shade of denim blue. We found a super versatile black pair from Anyday at John Lewis, a khaki pair - made from organic cotton - at Whistles, chocolate brown dungarees (which tick off the cocoa-coloured trend) from Monki and a sweet pastel pink pair in corduroy at ASOS. We also love the retro styling of Isabel Marant’s striped pair, they’re a designer investment purchase if you’re a dungaree devotee.
