Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa are obsessed with this nostalgic jewellery trend, and let's just say it's not for minimalists
Whether you like it or not (millennials are likely screaming 'not!' after the whole side-parting debacle) Gen Z and TikTok, in particular, are igniting a lot of fashion trends right now.
From super cute cottagecore to supermarket fashion hauls, a DIY renaissance to sustainable upcycling, there's a lot to be inspired by on the latest social media platform.
It seems down-to-earth, attainable fashion with the occasional kitsch detail is key on TikTok, which will explain why the latest trend has taken off to such a huge extent. If you're into subtle, fine jewellery, look away now...

Emerging as one of spring/summer 2021's biggest accessory trends, chunky acrylic rings have been seen adorning the fingers of several of TikTok's coolest stars.

Steeped in nostalgia, these rings are brightly coloured, playful and heavily reminiscent of the ones you'd find at the bottom of only the very best 90s party bags.
Oversized, covered in gemstones or metallic accents and very often stacked (if our five-year-old-self's fingers were longer we're certain we'd have done the same back then), there's nothing subtle about this trend. Which is undoubtedly a key factor in their success on social media.
Impossible to miss and instantly appealing to those of us with major magpie tendencies, these resin rings have gone cross-platform and made their way onto the Instagram feeds of some of the app's most stylish users.
Bella Hadid is undoubtedly one of the plastic ring's biggest fans, with Dua Lipa, Eris Baker and Brittany Xavier also experimenting with the punchy hand-candy.

Dua and Bella's go-to brand for these playful pieces is Barcelona-based brand La Manso, which was founded by Adriana Manso just three years ago.
"We want to be at your cocktails, in the supermarket queue, sweating in the gym or swimming in the pool", reads the brand's website.
"We promise to be the center of attention, at any time and in any situation. Slide us on your fingers and stop counting the carats of your rings, because plastic is fantastic."

But for the creative, super savvy set over on TikTok, the new trend of plastic and resin rings provided an opportunity for a little DIY action.
Because why not? We're still not going out as much as we did pre-pandemic. If we can't get our craft on now then we surely never will...
