57 stunning bridesmaid hairstyles, from classic to cool-girl
Bridesmaid hairstyles are a lot cooler now that we've ditched the idea of identical crispy curls and rigid ‘special occasion’ updos. These days, modern bridal parties are leaning into personalised looks that suit each squad member and styles that ultimately work with their individual hair type and texture. In other words, anything goes – which is brilliant news for both brides and bridesmaids alike.

“Generally speaking, gone are the days when a bride would come up with a look and every bridesmaid would have to have their hair up all uniform, barrel-curled and quite set-looking," confirms celebrity hair stylist, Pete Burkhill.
Proof of the pudding is the hair look he crafted for Nicole Richie while she performed Maid of Honour duties for her sister, Sofia. “I gelled Nicole's hair into a really hard, snatched bun with a rope detail in the back,” he says of the look.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with a classic updo or big barrel waves - it's just about giving them a fresh, modern twist to ensure they don't look too done or dated. “I've been seeing a lot of hair down with more of a luxury bouncy ‘90s blow dry – like a Madison Beers half-up, half-down style with just the top half clipped back,” Pete adds.

“Individuality is key, with people working with what suits them. And people are also being a lot braver,” says Pete. Take the messy bun. We've seen some gorgeous current renditions that are pared back, less busy, but just as beautiful. The half updo remains a favourite, but cute details, like introducing a neat loveknot (see below) rather than a traditional twist, can elevate it and add interest.

‘Dark romance waves’ inspired by Wuthering Heights were not only name-checked in our spring hair trends, but they're set to be one of the biggest influences for bridal parties in 2026, too. Created by hairstylist Bryce Scarlett, they're characterised by a waist-skimming length, mermaid-like waves (try using a triple-barrel hair waver to get a similar effect) and a half-up style with a few loose tendrils around the face.

We're also seeing XXL braids, ‘90s spiky buns and OTT hair accessories, like statement bows, jumbo scrunchies and stacked-up hair slides, make their way into the rotation to keep things interesting and more in keeping with a bridesmaid's style outside of their role on the day.
