7 exciting books about porn, sex, and desire coming out in 2026
When we're not having sex or watching porn, there's a high chance we're thinking about having sex or watching porn. A 2025 survey found that 88% of 18-28-year-olds watch porn, which goes some way to explaining the rising demand for ‘spicy’ romance novels, erotic audiobooks, and ‘fantasy’ sex toys. For too long, women have been the afterthought in their own sex lives; now, we're taking back our desire.
But the road to sexual liberation is a long one – especially given the worldwide assault on women's bodily and sexual freedoms, from the rollback of abortion rights to the emergence of online ‘rape academies’. How can we start bridging the orgasm gap if we don't feel safe around our partner? What if an accidental pregnancy could land you in prison? How can we be ‘sex-positive’ in a society hell-bent on making us submit?
The relationship between porn, sex, and power is explored in a wave of new non-fiction books by feminist authors, creatives, and academics. From Emma-Louise Boynton's memoir, Pleasure: A Reclamation of My Body, to Clare McGlynn's Exposed: The Rise of Extreme Porn and How We Fight Back, the following books examine the structural forces working against our sexual emancipation, whether that's diet culture, the porn industry, or ancient societal stigma. See Jean Menzies' Aphrodisia: Women, Sex and Pleasure in the Classical World for more on that last one.
In the words of the great feminist writer and activist Gloria Steinem, “The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.” So with that in mind: read, get angry, get free.
