How we choose the best sex furniture:

The GLAMOUR commerce team, made up of women of all preferences and ages, has been testing a host of sex accessories for the past five years — and after half a decade's worth of thorough reviewing, we know what it takes to make a great finger vibrator, rabbit vibrator, anal sex toy, egg vibrator... the list goes on.

The pieces of sex furniture in our edit were either used during partnered penetrative play, or during solo self-pleasure sessions. For those we have yet to test, we browsed the online reviews and asked industry experts for their seal of approval.

In terms of the critera we rated them against:

  • Ease of use — Could our testers work out how to assemble, inflate or involve their sex accessory without a deep dive into the instruction manual?
  • Speed and intensity of orgasm — Did use of the sex furniture aid or inhibit pleasurable sensations?
  • Design — Was it ergonomic, easy to use and fit for purpose?
  • Settings — For those programmed with vibration patterns and various speeds, was there enough variety? Any unique patterns we haven't seen before?
  • Volume — AKA how did the sex machine compare with our quiet vibrator?

What are the different types of sex furniture?

While pillows and wedges may be the first options that come to mind, chairs, swings, sex machines, benches and ramps, slings, and mounts all fall under the sex-furniture umbrella:

TypeExplainer
Sex pillowJust like a yoga block, the firm pillows help you experiment with sex positions and angles to allow for deeper penetration. Angled and available in a variety of sizes, they're fairly subtle and easy to store.
Sex swingMost commonly made up of two primary straps and stirrups, sometimes with the addition of handles, hand cuffs and a headrest, these are designed for anti-gravity sex. Choose from an over-the-door sex sling or a more sturdy lay-down sex swing.
Sex chairDesigned for those keen to experiment with power play and domination, a sex chair — sometimes also known as a queening stool — aid oral sex. They can also be used for restraint or impact play.
Sex toy mountGo hands-free with the help of a sex toy mount, designed to hold your vibrators — best suits to the likes of magic wand vibrators and G-spot vibrators — in a variety of angles, allowing you to trial new positions, locations and voyeurism.
Sex machineIntended to mimic the sensations of sexual intercourse, whether used during solo masturbation, as part of foreplay or as part of your partnered ventures. They’re often mechanised (but not exclusively), and usually consist of a thrust or suction mechanism paired with an attachment, such as a dildo, vibrator, or masturbation sleeve.

How can sex furniture benefit your sex life?

Sex furniture can help conquer physical limitations, allow for new and exciting sex positions, offer comfort where there wasn’t comfort before, and increase your understanding of sexual pleasure —your own, as well as your partner’s. For example, if you’ve never used a sex pillow to lift your hips up several inches during intercourse, then you’re missing out on penetration that isn’t just extra deep but more comfortable too.

What to consider when choosing sex furniture:

Figure out your space.

Sure, a big BDSM table is set to be (deliciously) fun, but if you need to ditch your dining table to make it fit in your home, then it’s not exactly practical. For some furniture, it’s not just about having space but choosing a toy that can hold both your body weight — because a sex swing that can't is virtually redundant.

Decide how you want to use the toy.

Is it to take your kinkiness up a notch or to increase the mobility of one or both partners? Once you’re able to answer these questions, then it comes down to examining the features that are best for both your sexual and physical needs — including the quality of the piece’s materials and how easy it is to install.
