Cropped jumpers are the wardrobe staple you didn't realise you needed this winter

2021 was the summer that fashion shrunk itself.  Cropped blazers, cropped tops and cycling shorts all had major moments but it's cropped jumpers that have proved to be the perma-trend that's here to stay.

It's obvious to see why cropped jumpers were a practical buy during the warmer(ish) weather but *news just in* they are also a clever wear for winter because they give you so many layering options to make your outfits feel extra. Cropped jumpers look particularly sweet layered over an oversized shirt, with the shirt tails peeking out below and they work with a zoom-worthy blouse, with the collar pulled out, too.

We’ve searched through our favourite high street brands and designer labels to bring you an edit of cropped jumpers that you’ll love, whatever your budget. Jacquemus is the brand that helped propel the trend into our consciousness and the ecru Risoul cropped and layered sweater in ribbed merino wool is a cult buy. RedValentino's pink and black jacquard knit jumper is sweet with an edge (and would look slick with a pair of black leather trousers) but if you prefer a more classic shade, Acne's essential black polo-neck knit will become a wardrobe staple.

Cropped jumpers in sweet pastel shades feel retro, especially H&M's fluffy offering (which is made from recycled nylon.) Sustainable brand Reformation has a lilac cropped jumper that is made from a recycled cashmere mix too. Topshop have also gone for a Y2K mood with a pale blue knit in chunky soft chenille. So fetch.

We recommend you wear any (or all) of these cropped jumpers with high waisted jeans or high waisted trousers to show off the shorter silhouette.
