17 best breastfeeding dresses 2026, for postpartum wardrobes
If you'd told me sixteen months ago, when my newborn baby boy was just a few days old and feeding every hour, that I'd still be shopping for breastfeeding dresses going into 2026, I'd have laughed in your face. Alas, it looks as though he's laughing in mine.
Because while they give you all the warnings about breastfeeding before your baby even makes it earthside - “You just wait for the cracked nipples!”, “Your supply will have to keep up with his demand!”, “Beware of the hormonal CRASH when you start/slow/stop!”, “If he has allergies your whole diet will need to change!”, “He may not latch well!”, “He may not latch at all!” etc. - what they don't warn you about is that you are not in charge. Of any of it. Not if they want milk. Or where they want milk. Or when they want milk. And most definitely not when they stop. Or, in my case, do not stop.

The best breastfeeding dresses, at a glance:
I'd always thought, all being well and if I was one of the few lucky ones for whom breastfeeding went relatively well for, I'd ideally aim for the 12 month mark before reclaiming my body as my own again and I could take basic medication without reading the entire pamphlet of information inside or go for dinner with friends without having to rush back for bed time.
Alas, his first birthday came and went, and despite him bossing us around and ploughing through his (sugar-free) birthday cake as though he were a teenager, there I was - watching on wearing yet another dress (this Broderie Anglaise shirt dress from H&M, to be precise) that had been chosen primarily due to the ease-of-access it provided to my breasts.
Because - despite the arrival of teeth into the equation and my endless hormonal crashes paired with unsolicited ‘advice’ and raised eyebrows - if he's not ready to stop, then neither am I.

Luckily, after sixteen months (did I mention that it's been sixteen months?) of nursing - and well over a decade working in the fashion industry - the search for the best breastfeeding dresses has become less of a hurdle and more of a determined personal mission. Because I strongly believe that, at this stage, if I can't find them, no one can.
And because I'm in a benevolent, festive mood, I thought I'd share my very best finds with you. After something else? Shop the best breastfeeding tops this way.
Why you can trust me
Freelance Fashion Editor, Charlie Teather, became a first time mum last year, and – alongside, you know, prepping for one of humankind's toughest physical feats and the subsequent life-altering reality of a tiny new human to care for 24/7 – rediscovering how to dress a body that was changing every single day posed a real challenge.
Charlie didn't want to lose her personal style identity, but wanted to celebrate and not just ‘disguise’ this incredible moment in her life. And if she was finding this balance hard to strike, after working her whole adult lives in the fashion and magazine industry, she figured others must be too. So Charlie made it something of a personal/professional mission to compile the ultimate guides. If for nothing more than for her to refer back to if/when she ever does this pregnancy thing again, because (spoiler alert) baby brain is no joke, people.
She's also been breastfeeding for sixteen months (some babies apparently aren't so keen to wean themselves!), so you can trust that these dresses have really been put through their paces.
How I tested the best breastfeeding dresses
Charlie used her own pregnancy and postpartum journey as the perfect excuse to trial run the best maternity styles out there and compile this edit. She shopped for staples from independent, designer and high street maternity brands during her second and third trimesters (with varying success), and has also asked her well-dressed pregnant pals and new mums for their top tips to find high-quality maternity wear. Not to mention, she's scoured Instagram for the ultimate inspiration too. For mums-to-be, Glamour's edit of the best maternity jeans of 2025 is essential reading…

Your breastfeeding dresses FAQs, answered:
What month should you start wearing maternity clothes?
This is entirely your call: you could start wearing the above stylish maternity clothes when you no longer feel comfortable in your normal outfits, even if that's in your first trimester. Generally, most pregnant women will begin wearing maternity clothes when their regular 'fits feel tight, which might be a few weeks into their second trimester - perhaps around 13-16 weeks onwards. But don’t forget, your maternity style is totally down to you.
How to find breastfeeding dresses that are actually cute?
Of course, this is speculative, but we recommend tailoring your search. Rather than Googling ‘breastfeeding dresses’ - where you'll always end up being served the dresses that have been created primarily with ease-of-access in mind over aesthetic - it's a good idea to find the style of dress that you like and works for breastfeeding and search that. For example, I've found shirt dresses (like this one from Mango) work best for me as they're in-line with my personal style and can be unbuttoned easily for feeding. Other friends have preferred deep v-neck dresses, while some love zips and others the more modern style with tied-up bows. Find your favourite formula and stick to searching that term.
Are there any breastfeeding dresses that aren't maternity dresses?
We get it. It can be super frustrating when you're postpartum and finally without a bump that seemingly every dress option out there that makes feeding possible also comes with a mass of excess fabric set to accommodate a pregnant belly. While we get the thought process behind the design (they're perfect for those who want a new dress in pregnancy but don't want it to be redundant the minute they start breastfeeding), there is also a market for those postpartum who are shopping for something new. Luckily you don't always have to shop from specific ‘breastfeeding-friendly’ collections, and could rather shop a little more intentionally from your favourite pre-pregnancy stores. H&M has a great button-up cardigan dress right now which works well, while Ghospell at ASOS just dropped a very cute burgundy dress that would be perfect for some festive breastfeeding.
