Makeup is the shiz, but when we’re finally allowed round our mates for a non-distanced bbq, are we honestly going to spend an hour blending out a smokey eye? Nooope. Here’s where I’ll be: cracking out a beer (Desperados. Corona can bore off). And, if I fancy perking up my face – which tbh, I most definitely will – I’ll be after a beauty look that can deliver maximum impact, with minimal effort, for my glorious debut back into the world.

If that sounds like your kind of plan, I have a solution for you – beauty crayons. They might sound like an anti-climax, but they’re very smooth operators. Pick a versatile enough shade and you can scribble it across your lids, lips and cheeks, blend it with your fingertips, whack on a mascara and get the show on the road.

Beauty crayons may not be new, but they are becoming more popular. When Byredo launched its happy-go-lucky makeup line at the end of last year, it unveiled its core Colour Sticks. “The crayons are meant to be versatile. They work on eyes, lips, cheeks, brows, wherever you want,” explained makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench, who co-created the line. She demo’d them alongside an incredible colour-clash eye, which took about 12 seconds to create using only her fingers.

Last month, MILK Makeup dished up its new Color Chalks, and some pretty hefty 90s nostalgia. The packaging looks like a mash-up between Love Hearts' Candy Lipsticks and Lip Smackers' Lip Balm, the main difference? It’s wrapped in an eco-friendly peel-off wrapper to save on waste. The solid colour sticks offer experimentation, they offer versatility and, most importantly, they offer ease. A showstopping OUT-OUT look might take you a couple of minutes.
