34 best BAFTAs 2024 hair and makeup looks

The 2024 BAFTAs have arrived and, as ever, the red carpet never fails in serving up iconic, glamorous and the occasional mind-blowingly cool looks. Often hints of what's to come for the season ahead, the makeup mood leaned heavily on dewy skin with gossamer fine blusher and barely a hint of powder in sight.
While nude lipstick reigned supreme, Sheila Atim and Charithra Chandran made a case for orange lips - ranging from burnt orange with a metallic sheen to a matte ombre version.
When it came to hair, the BAFTAs singlehanded brought back deep side parts. Bobs predictably stole the show with The Crown's Meg Bellamy choosing the occasion to debut a chic, blunt, jaw-grazing bob. And Margot Robbie, Emily Blunt and Emma Stone, all co-signed the wavy bun trend.
So while the celebrities receive their gongs in the limelight, it's also a night to celebrate the backstage hair, makeup and nail squads who are critical to each look.

Margot is the epitomy of classic red carpet beauty. Overnight she swapped the bold red lip she wore for the Charles Finch & Chanel 2024 Pre-BAFTA Party for a more muted affair, with soft puffs of dusty pink eyeshadow and blusher, and a nude lip.

The clue is definitely in the name. After all, is there anything more serotonin-inducing than skin with a next-level glow, spiky doll lashes and the glossiest of cherry red lacquered lips?

As if Sabrina's flipped bob didn't look jaw-droppingly chic enough, she then went and added a single kiss curl.
Gareth Cattermole/BAFTA/Getty ImagesEmma Stone
Emma always seems to put the fun into red carpet beauty and this peachy affair –courtesy of a full face of Lisa Eldridge makeup – was no different. Makeup artist Rachel Goodwin swept a combination of the Liquid Lurex Eyeshadow in Maya and the Eyeshadow Palette in Muse over her lids for a lustrous rose gold finish. While her burnt ochre lips came courtesy of the True Velvet Lip Colour in Velvet Cinnabar.
Kate Green/BAFTA/Getty ImagesLily Collins
RIP to the blunt fringe as the Emily In Paris star wore her hair swept into a side parting, away from her forehead, complete with Hollywood waves. Perfectly sculpted brows framed her eyes and a claret lip completed the look.
Kate Green/BAFTA/Getty ImagesCharithra Chandran
Charithra paired a vintage ‘Old Money bob’ with metallic beige and chocolate eyeshadow from the Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Eyeshadow Palette in 18 Nude Sculptural. Makeup artist Kenneth Soh then added a slick of lipstick that sat somewhere between a brick and deep burnt orange hue (Lancôme L'Absolut Rouge Drama Matte in Dramatised Nude). Our kind of beauty alchemy.

Yomi was the walking definition of the glazed blush beauty trend with cheeks that look simultaneously flushed and wet-look glossy.

Emily pulled together the ultimate sun-kissed look - from her bronzed skin to her face-framing golden highlights and barrelled curls. Chantecaille's Sea Turtle Eye Trio in Cool paired with the Luster Glide Eye Liner in Amethyst created a striking purple eye.

Ayo's 60s blow-out bob with a modern twist was created by celebrity hair stylist James Catalano, who set her hair in large rollers before using got2b Volumania volumising hairspray to create a full-bodied look. Makeup-wise, Kenneth Soh said in an Instagram post, “I wanted a gorgeous sultry look, working from a palette that’s found within Ayo’s complexion. Dusky chocolate and browns, sheer plums and blush. It’s all about bringing out Ayo’s beauty naturally with a little bit more oomph for the red carpet." He name checked Charlotte Tilbury's Eyes To Mesmerise in Chocolate Bronze and the Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer as key products used to create the look. "I built up Ayo's natural lashes using my favourite Lashify gossamers in the Amplify style. They give a luxurious, feathery effect that's still natural,” he added.

Daisy paired an almost ‘no makeup’ makeup look with edgy ombre hair and dark-hued curtain bangs that are a marked departure from her recent all-over blonde colour.

India served up goddess vibes with long braids swept into an updo and strategically placed loose tendrils, created by Alesha L Williams and Tálè. Soft swathes of coral on the cheeks (Lancôme Blush Subtil in Sorbet de Corail) by makeup artist Lake Sanu added extra interest.

Florence keeps coming up with show-stopping ways to style short hair. Here she gave a masterclass in how to look cool on the red carpet with a semi wet-look bob artfully swept back by hairstylist Hyungsun Ju, and smoked-out eyes framed with fluttery lashes by her long-time makeup artist Alex Babsky.

Sheila's ombré lips, created using a punchy orange shade in the centre of the lip and outlined with a darker brown hue, steered this look away from red carpet predictability. The matte finish kept the look ultra modern.
Gareth Cattermole/BAFTA/Getty ImagesDua Lipa
We're still not over Dua's cherry cola hair colour, especially when it's worn against this season's trending ‘tauve’ lipstick shade.
Lia Toby/BAFTA/Getty ImagesSophie Ellis-Bextor
Sophie looked to be channelling low-key Priscilla Presley with razor-sharp winged eyeliner and a mini bouffant created by hairstylist Lisa Laudat. “I created the look by firstly drying the hair straight & going back over with the Chronos Styler giving Sophie’s hair a shiny elegant flick,” she noted in an Instagram post. The punchy lilac eyeshadow propelled the look into 2024.

Rosamund's look was the sweet spot, where a touch of delicate pink blusher and rosebud pink lipstick met tougher, slicked back hair.
Gareth Cattermole/BAFTA/Getty ImagesCarey Mulligan
What's not to love about Carey's perfectly coiffed, side-parted bob, subtle black eyeliner reserved only for the upper lid and deep crimson lipstick?
Kate Green/BAFTA/Getty ImagesMeg Bellamy
The Crown star was almost unrecognisable with her new brunette bob. Worn in a centre parting with blunt ends, it kept her look fresh and youthful.
Gareth Cattermole/BAFTA/Getty ImagesNaomi Campbell
Naomi was all about the sharp lines with a precise cat-eye flick and blunt bob with full fringe.
John Phillips/Getty ImagesMolly Manning Walker
The How to Have Sex director's blazer picked up the same platinum blonde hue as her elfin crop. Black eyeliner, dark brows and a pinky nude lip completed the look.
Kate Green/BAFTA/Getty ImagesEmma Corrin
Always one to push the envelop fashion-wise, Emma wore a netted fascinator over her buzzcut. Although it partly veiled her face, her dewy skin and the monochromatic soft brown makeup dabbed onto her eyes, lips and cheeks still peaked through, making for an ultra-polished ensemble.
Shane Anthony Sinclair/BAFTA/Getty ImagesLashana Lynch
Lashana tapped into this trending 2000s hair accessory – the thick, cotton headband – and proved that it looks just as good on the red carpet as it does off duty.
Kate Green/BAFTA/Getty ImagesZainab Jiwa
Zainab's smoky eyes added drama while her tawny-toned makeup looked effortlessly chic.
Lia Toby/BAFTA/Getty ImagesSandra Huller
A wavy quiff-like updo breathed new life into Sandra's bob. A slick of red lipstick added instant glamour.
Scott Garfitt/Getty ImagesKaya Scodelario
Kaya took black liner to the next level by stopping short of the inner corner of her eyes for a Sixties effect.
Kate Green/BAFTA/Getty ImagesHannah Waddingham
Hannah always cuts a glamorous figure on the red carpet. A touch of bronzer warmed up her luminous skin, while peachy lips and inky black mascara completed the look.
Gareth Cattermole/BAFTA/Getty ImagesClaire Foy
Claire is proof that the side part is going nowhere - nor are lashings of black mascara and a punchy red lip.
Shane Anthony Sinclair/BAFTA/Getty ImagesTallia Storm
Tallia ditched her signature blonde locks and debuted glossy red hair that cascaded down her back in waves.
Scott Garfitt/Getty ImagesFantasia Barrino
Fantasia brought the drama with a two-toned red lip, smoky eye and lashes so long you can see them in your peripheral vision.
Shane Anthony Sinclair/BAFTA/Getty ImagesMimi Keene
Mimi kept things simple and stylish by wearing her long, poker-straight hair in a half-up, half-down style with a centre-parted fringe.
Kate Green/BAFTAVogue Williams
Luminosity was the brief for Vogue's glam squad as only the sequins on her gown outshone her ethereal skin and glossy lips.
Gareth Cattermole/BAFTA/Getty ImagesEmerald Fennell
Emerald's classic makeup mirrored the red and black accents on her dress.
Scott Garfitt/Getty ImagesBryce Dallas Howard
Bryce opted to wear her red hair in a relaxed face-framing updo, while her makeup was more whimsical with black eyeliner and a touch of pink on the cheeks and lips.
Joe Maher/BAFTAAndreea Cristea
Andreea's soft pink-purple eyeshadow picked out the shade of the gem stones in her intricate necklace. Tightlining with black kohl and a sheer glossy lip infused the look with a modern edginess.
