The majority of our team was “surprised” by the viral wipe-off lip tint.
Our Wonderskin Lip Stain Review Prime Day Deal

With more than 20,000 reviews on Amazon, it’s safe to say that the Wonderskin Lip Stain has gone as viral as a lip tint can possible go. The liquid tint comes in more than 15 shades, so there’s something for every skin tone. It’s also smudge-proof, transfer-proof, and eating-proof. But the real selling point is the application process: Once you’ve put it on, you let it dry for about 15 to 30 seconds. Then you wipe it off with a damp towel or tissue. The result, according to fans? Naturally tinted and plumper lips.

But does it live up to the hype? The Glamour US team put it to the test in their 5 People Try series – and with the lip stain currently on sale for Amazon Prime Day, there’s never been a better excuse to try it for yourself.

Wonderskin Lip Stain

What is the Wonderskin Lip Stain?

Let’s talk about what’s actually inside this viral little tube – because the formula is seriously impressive. It’s packed with hydrating heavy-hitters like hyaluronic acid and squalane (so your lips stay soft and juicy), plus lactic acid to gently exfoliate for a smoother finish. There’s also a Hydra-G complex and purified seaweed in the mix, which basically means your lips are getting a mini skincare treatment and a pop of colour in one go.

Shade-wise, there are 17 to choose from – from sheer neutrals to bold reds – so whether you're a natural makeup kind of person or into a statement lip, there's something for you. The Glamour US team tested Hush (a super wearable neutral brown), XOXO (a soft rose-pink), and Whimsical (the prettiest pinky mauve).

It comes in two formulas: the OG peel-and-reveal version, and the wipe-off version, which is what the team tried. Price-wise, it’s on sale for £13.68 for a 4ml bottle – not the cheapest, but when you consider it replaces your balm, tint and lipstick in one go (and actually stays on), it’s a pretty good investment.

Oh, and it’s also vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, paraben-free, and PFAS-free – what’s not to love?

Does the Wonderskin Lip Stain work?

Shade: Hush

I tried the shade Hush, labeled as a neutral brown, but on me, it leaned a little more reddish, as if I’d just eaten a bowl of strawberries. Not quite the deep, moody brown I was hoping for. To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed by the colour payoff. I’m someone who loves a strong outer lip, a darker outline to give definition and shape. That’s where I see a stain really shining, as a long-wear base or liner. But Hush applied more like a full-lip flush and didn’t give me the contour or contrast I was looking for. I could see it working better if I used two different shades, but one alone didn’t do the trick.

I will say the formula wears fine. Once it’s on, it’s on, but not quite all-day on. And the water-activated version felt more hassle than helpful. The peel-off version makes more sense, especially for us girlies on the go. And definitely follow up with a lip oil; your lips will need it. Is it game-changing? Not quite. But it has potential, with a few tweaks.

Shade: XOXO

I heard about Wonderskin lip stains when they originally blew up on TikTok but only recently did I give them a try. I was actually impressed by the colour payoff compared to other products. The XOXO in particular gave me a bright shade of pink that paired well with my lip gloss. It lasted my entire workday, and I didn’t feel the need to reapply so many times. I think it’s great for special events when you don’t want to have to constantly check your pout. You do have to make sure to apply a hydrating lip balm, because the formula can be a little drying. As a shopping editor, I’ve tried my fair share of lip products, and this one is going on top of my list.

Shade: Hush

Okay, Wonderskin Lip Tint is kind of a game changer. It’s gym-proof, meal-proof, and yes... even make-out-proof. Once it sets, it does not budge. I will say, it can feel a little dry on the lips, but I just layer a gloss on top and it looks amazing. My go-to shades are Whimsical when I want something bold and XOXO for an everyday flush. If you’re tired of reapplying lipstick all day, this is totally worth trying.

Shade: Hush

The Wonderskin Lip Stain is a very interesting product to wear. I wore the colour Hush, a medium-brown tint. It goes on wet and blue, but don’t let that scare you away. Once you leave it to dry for a few seconds and wipe it off, the colour is true to match. I really liked the colour payoff because it was more pigmented than I thought, which is a big plus. It does feel pretty dry on application, so I was eager to put on lip balm afterward. The product claims to be “smudge-proof, transfer-proof, water-resistant,” all of which I agree with. If you’re looking for a stain under a gloss, this is the perfect product for you!

Shade: Whimsical

I was pleasantly surprised by this lip stain. As someone with very sensitive lips, I was afraid it would irritate my skin, but it gave me no reaction. It’s a little messy to apply, but the results are worth it—my lips had a perfect rosy colour that looked very similar to my natural lip colour, just enhanced. After that, all I needed to do was apply liner and gloss. Pro tip: Apply pre-makeup, so you don’t mess up your foundation while wiping the stain off.

The final verdict

So, does the Wonderskin Lip Tint live up to the hype? According to the Glamour US team, there are a few things we can say for sure. First up - this stuff lasts. Almost every editor said the tint stayed put all day, through coffees, lunches, and everything in between. Not having to reapply constantly? Major win.

They were also pleasantly surprised by how bold the colour payoff was - far more pigmented than expected for a stain. But, it wasn't all super positive. Every single tester felt the need to reach for a gloss or lip oil after wiping it off, just to bring back a bit of hydration and shine (if you’re a gloss lover, we’ve rounded up the best lip oils here). A couple of editors also said they used a lip liner afterwards to neaten the edges and finish the look.

All in all? It got a big thumbs up. It’s not necessarily your everyday, throw-on-and-go lip, but if you’ve got a long day or a special event where you want your lip colour to stay, it’s absolutely worth a spot in your makeup bag.
