Described as the ultimate escapist comfort watch, Netflix's Virgin River has just broken some serious records after being renewed for its eighth season.
This makes the TV series – which is based on Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, following the relationships between characters in small town Virgin River, beginning from nurse Melinda “Mel” Munroe's mission to seek a fresh start in the remote town – the longest-running live action scripted series, surpassing Jane Fonda's Grace and Frankie and Orange Is The New Black.
It all comes down to this.

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Netflix's Tudum of the season's renewal.
This comes after confirmation earlier this year that season 7 of the show is officially in production. The official Instagram account for the series announced that “Virgin River is back in production for season 7!!!” Before season 7 will even hit screens, we know that another chapter will follow.

So what can we expect from Virgin River season 7? “Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together. Meanwhile, Doc and Hope will work together to protect the clinic and the integrity of the town from outsiders,” Smith said.
We will see Mel and Jack's “honeymoon phase” bring new challenges, and the show will also continue to focus on other family and community dynamics in the small town of Virgin River. The Vampire Diaries star Sara Canning will join for season 7 as Victoria, a former police officer who is now working as a medical board investigator. She arrives in town to review Doc's clinic, but finds herself reconnecting with someone from her own past.
Riverdale's Cody Kearsley will also join the cast as Clay, a newcomer with experience in rodeo. He's searching for his sister, who he became separated from in foster care.
How many episodes will Virgin River season 8 have?
It will have 10 episodes, the same number as season 7 has.
Virgin River season 8 release date
Seeing as Virgin River season 7 has only recently completed filming and is expected to air by the end of 2025, we wouldn't expect to see season 8 drop until 2026 at the earliest.
