Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI are slowly but surely becoming one of our favourite couples. Ever since the beginning of 2024, the Australian and Canadian stars have been sparking dating rumors after being spotted together (and holding hands) multiple times. LAROI seemed to give fans the confirmation they were waiting for during one of his The First Time tour stops, and since then, the cute couple moments have not stopped.
Prior to being romantically linked, McRae was in a relationship with fellow Canadian ice hockey player Cole Sillinger. The pair went Instagram official in 2022 and seemingly called it quits in early 2023, with McRae deleting all their pictures together from her social media. LAROI, on the other hand, famously dated TikTok star Katarina Deme since 2020 before wiping all traces of her on his social media in the summer of 2023.

February 20, 2025: Tate McRae opens up about collaborating with The Kid LAROI on her new album So Close to What.
Tate McRae released her third studio album So Close to What on Friday, February 21, and kicked off the launch with a special listening party in partnership with Spotify. The Kid LAROI is featured on the ninth track on the album titled “I Know Love.” During the Q&A portion of the listening party, McRae joked about the fact that she and Laroi had never “seriously” collaborated, and shared that when it came down to really making music together, it was a “little stressful.”
“It was a really funny process, because me and Laroi have never really, like, taken each other seriously,” McRae said, per Billboard. “You know when you’re in a relationship and you sing around each other, but you don’t really, like, sing? So it was a little stressful being in the studio singing and writing in front of him, but it was a cool experience to watch him in his process.”
In “I Know Love,” the couple share verses that will give you butterflies: “We started off friends / how you end up here? / Next to me? (Honestly, this sh*t is crazy) / I said ‘You my type,’ out in Mexico tonight / You said it was gon' be quick, now we're twelve months in.”

In the lead-up to the album's release, Tate McRae told Apple Music's Zane Lowe that she and Laroi have now written two songs together and called the creative collaboration aspect of their relationship “really fresh.”
“We've never sang in front of each other until August. I pulled him out for one of my shows. And it was so funny, we're sitting in soundcheck and neither of us wanted to start singing," she said, adding that she “wouldn't look at him" while singing.
“It's like a mental thing where I just feel like he's never heard me sing, and I like to pretend that he doesn't know I'm a singer, but he does obviously know I'm a singer,” she gushed. “Doing the soundcheck is so nervous, and same with writing in the studio. We were just like, ‘Are you going to listen?’ And he's like, ‘Yeah.’ But it was funny. It was was wholesome. It was cute, but it was definitely nerve-wracking for both of us who are usually so in our element and so controlling in the rooms. We both were like, 'Okay, who's going to lead the room?'… We just try to not talk about work as much as possible, but it is hard when the conversation always leads back there.”

Tate McRae made a statement at the 2024 VMAs red carpet, paying homage to one of Britney Spears's iconic looks from the famed show. And though she might have walked the red carpet alone, she kept good company during the show. Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI went heavy on the PDA — though not of the kissing type, at least not that type of kissing — at the 2024 VMAs. The duo was photographed in the stands together, holding hands and sharing sweet forehead kisses while watching the performers and backstage.
After the show, the couple was also seen in NYC's Greenwich Village holding hands. While The Kid LAROI was wearing the same 'fit from the VMAs (minus a few layers), McRae, who just put out her single “It’s ok I’m ok," changed into a different mini dress.

The couple jetted off to what appeared to be their first holiday together shortly after their respective 21st birthdays. LAROI posted a recap of their trip to his Instagram, writing: “Rare Instagram post life update.” The carousel included a picture of the couple jet skiing together.

August 22, 2024: The Kid LAROI and Tate McRae are spotted on a night out together after singing a duet together at MSG.
After a few months of being on their respective tours and space sightings, the couple was spotted on a night out together around NYC's NoHo, looking smitten and seemingly confirming their relationship status once more. Earlier that day, the two also performed “Without You” together at MSG during McRae's sold-out show.

The Kid LAROI seemed to make things official with Tate McRae during a show in Dublin in the middle of the European leg of his The First Time tour. On April 14, the “Stay" singer addressed the crowd, saying: “I need everybody in here to sing this as loud as they can because my girlfriend’s here tonight, and I don’t want to look lame.”
Of course, this could mean anyone, but thankfully, cameras panned out to capture McRae watching the show from the sides of the stage. In case there were any doubts the “Greedy” singer was indeed in attendance, she herself made them all disappear by posting a handful of stories of her POV while at the concert. She also took the time to take some selfies with fans while at the venue.
While LAROI was then off to continue his European tour, which wrapped up on April 27, McRae was gearing up to start her own world tour, Think Later, on April 17 in — would you guess it — Dublin, Ireland.

The rumor mill started when Tate McRae appeared to wear The Kid LAROI's shirt in a photo dump from a recent trip to Mexico. As noted by various fan accounts, the duo was seen partying together with a group of friends during their apparent joint vacation.
After McRae posted her photo dump, LAROI snuck into the comment section to leave a “😎” emoji, which made fans speculate even further. “Isn't that shirt yours??👀” a fan commented under LAROI's emoji. Neither McRae nor LAROI addressed the rumours at the time.
