Heartfelt, honest and hilariously awkward, Sex Education is the hit Netflix show that single-handedly got us through last winter. And now, as the the dark night draw in once again, Netflix has confirmed a second season is landing on the 17th January 2020. Yaaaas.

Excitement levels have reached fever pitch as the trailer for the critically-acclaimed just landed. And in it students of Moordale High School are treated to a sex education assembly from none other than Otis' Mum played by Gillian Anderson. AWKWARD.

In a statement about the recommission, series creator Laurie Nunn said, “The reception to series one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible."

The coming-of-age series about a group of students navigating the world of sex, relationships and identity got the whole nation talking, while the diverse, intersectional and feminist characters broke new boundaries in TV.

So what can we expect from season 2...

Who's in the cast?

Netflix has confirmed that most of the main cast of Moordale High School are reuniting for the next instalment of debauchery, with Asa Butterfield back as socially awkward Otis and Gillian Anderson as his sex-therapist mum and all-round fan favourite Jean.

Meanwhile Ncuti Gatwa returns as the loveable out and proud Eric, Emma Mackey as Maeve, Aimee-Lou Wood as popular girl Aimee, Kedar Williams-Stirling as popular jock Jackson, Patricia Allison as Otis' current love interest Ola and Connor Swindells as school bully Adam.

Creator Laurie Nunn will also return as creator and executive producer, with Jamie Campbell set to executive produce.

What will happen?

According to Netflix's official statement, in season 2 "Otis must master his newly discovered sexual urges in order to progress with his girlfriend Ola whilst also dealing with his now strained relationship with Maeve. Meanwhile, Moordale Secondary is in the throes of a Chlamydia outbreak, highlighting the need for better sex education at the school and new kids come to town who will challenge the status quo."

With eight new episodes to delve into, there's a whole new world of relationship possibilities. What will become of Otis' newfound romance with Ola? Will love be on the cards for Adam and Eric? How will Jean and Jakob's relationship progress?

The trailer just landed and, plot spoiler, it looks juicy AF. Whilst the trailer shows a sex education assembly from none other than Otis' Mum played by Gillian Anderson, it also shows the students of Moordale High School embroiled in more love triangles than Hollyoaks. Tense.

When will it air?

Netflix have confirmed the second season will be released on January 17 2020. HURRY UP ALREADY.
