A new report reveals that researchers have created a topical drug that could work to tan skin naturally and in turn reduce the risk of skin cancer.

How? Well, it causes the body to increase its production of melanin which absorbs UV radiation and decreases damage to skin cells. Not only could this cause people to tan quicker, meaning they would be more likely to have less contact time in the sun, it can provide extra protection for those prone to burning who want additional protection as it will increase the skin's tolerance of UV rays.

Now, there's still more research to be done before you can pick it up in Boots but dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, says it “an exciting potential option.” He explains, “This medication will likely not take the place of traditional sunscreen and sun protective behavior, but it may be helpful in some of our most at-risk patients.”
