YA TV shows with brothers in their main love triangles are officially on the up. First came The Summer I Turned Pretty, and then My Life With the Walter Boys, the second season of which is set to drop imminently.
The first season of My Life With the Walter Boys, which features 10 episodes, immediately skyrocketed in popularity on the streamer and social media. Within days of its premiere, it claimed the top spot on Netflix's Global English Top 10 TV List, with over 20 million views and counting. It's also reached the Top 10 in 88 countries across the world.
Based on Ali Novak’s Wattpad novel of the same name, My Life With the Walter Boys season one hit Netflix in December 2023. The show follows the story of Jackie Howard, a 15-year-old Manhattanite whose whole life turns upside down after she loses her parents and sister in an accident. She then has to move to Colorado with her guardian, Dr Katherine Walter, who was her mother’s best friend at Columbia University.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, International Production in tandem with iGeneration Studios (which you might recognise from the Kissing Booth trilogy), it's safe to say My Life with the Walter Boys is gaining fans left and right. When was My Life With The Walter Boys season 2 announced?
Netflix announced that My Life With the Walter Boys had been renewed for a season two on December 19, 2023. If we do some basic maths, that’s only 12 days after its initial premiere.
“I am beyond thrilled that My Life With the Walter Boys has been renewed for a second season,” Melanie Halsall, who serves as the series creator, showrunner, and executive producer, told Tudum. “We have been overwhelmed by the love and support that the audience has given the show and can’t wait to dive back into the world of Silver Falls and the lives of these characters.”
Netflix accompanied the season 2 announcement with a sweet video of the cast reaction to the news. The video shows actors Ashby Gentry (Alex Walter on the show), Nikki Rodriguez (Jackie Howard), and Noah LaLonde (Cole Walter) in the middle of a photo session on speakerphone with Halsall, who breaks the news to them. “I just wanted to let you know that we been given the green light for a season two,” Halsall announces, and the main trio immediately go in for a hug. My Life With The Walter Boys season 2 cast
Nikki Rodriguez will be reprising her role as Jackie Howard, as will Sarah Rafferty as Katherine. Also slated to return are Marc Blucas, Noa LaLonde, Ashby Gentry, Connor Stanhope, Johnny Link, Corey Fogelmanis and Jaylan Evans.
Zoë Soul will also return for season 2, but in fewer episodes, as well as Isaac Arellanes, Myles Perez, Alex Quijano, Ashley Tavares, Dean Petriw, Alix West Lefler, Lennix James, Alisha Newton, Ellie O’Brien, Kolton Stewart, Mya Lowe, Gabrielle Jacinto, Jesse Lipscombe and Nathaniel Arcand.
New cast members include Natalie Sharp, Carson MacCormac, Janet Kidder, Riele Downs and Jake Manley.
What will My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 be about?
The love triangle, of course. Netflix is already touting the season with a “Team Alex or Team Cole” tagline, so expect the drama to be intensified. “Pick a side when Netflix’s hit YS drama My Life With the Walter Boys returns for a second season,” the press release for season two read.
We also know it won't be based on Novak's sequel book, as the series took a different direction to the book at the end of season 1.
“When you’re making a television series that you want to be returning, you have to make changes from a novel. I wanted to surprise the audience. I wanted to give the audience something a little bit different than they were expecting from the book,” showrunner Melanie Halsall told Deadline. “I wanted to leave it open-ended what Jackie was going to do and what boy she was gonna end up with,” she said. “I’ve often said that maybe Jackie won’t end up with a boy but she’ll end up on her own. Maybe that’s still the case. It was a deliberate decision to make that change, and I think it was organic to the story.”
🚨 SPOILER ALERT 🚨 Season one of My Life With the Walter Boys ended on a bit of a cliffhanger after Jackie left that note for the brothers and fled to New York, quite literally running away from all her problems. If we rewind a little, we know Alex dropped the ‘L’ bomb prior to her escape and is now headed to the rodeo training camp. If we also rewind a little, we know that though Jackie is technically still with Alex, she also shared more than a kiss with Cole. So, yeah, that “I’m sorry” note is not going to cut it, and season two will likely bring all the answers.
