The M&S strawberries and cream sandwich may have only arrived on shelves on 25 June, but it's already taken the UK by storm and has swiftly made its way all over our FYPs.
Inspired by Japanese sweet sandos, the limited edition release is exactly what it says on the tin – deliciously ripe strawberries and whipped cream cheese between two slices of brioche style bread. Yes and yes.
While to many Brits the concept of a fruit sandwich or ‘furutsu sando’ (フルーツサンド) might not feel like an obvious go-to sweet treat, it's certainly winning fans over with a delightful combo of blissful creaminess and 10/10 strawberries. And just in time for Wimbledon too!
But what did team Glamour make of the new M&S strawberries and cream sandwich? These are our honest thoughts after doing a taste test of the beautifully bizarre new offering.
Initial thoughts on the M&S strawberries and cream sandwich
When we arrived at our local M&S to secure the goods there were just two rather sad looking sandos left for us to sample – a testament to how viral these things have gone in just days.
Rather than these being in the dessert section of the shop, you'll find M&S' strawberries and cream sandwich beside the usual lunch spread of wraps and savoury sandwiches.
While M&S say these retail from £2.80, our selection of sandos sourced from a central London branch came in at a rather pricey £3.20. Given this relatively high price point, team Glamour were somewhat underwhelmed that these sandwiches come in one packs rather than the usual sets of two you'd get with your average lunch purchase.
Nevertheless, we reserved judgement until we had the chance to put the sandos through a thorough taste test. So what did we make of the actual flavours?
The reviews are in, and the team were nearly all in agreement in their ratings!
M&S strawberries and cream sandwich reviews

"I was pleasantly surprised by this sandwich; the thick cream was a highlight, which paired nicely with the sweet, tangy strawberries and soft bread. Afternoon tea is calling my name."

“Bit claggy for me! the bread gave me the ick a bit, give me a classic strawb and cream any day.”
Rating: 8.5/10
“I wouldn't have it as a lunch main, but I'd say it's perfect late afternoon, on the grass, with a Pimms tinnie. The strawberries had a slight violet taste too and it felt fresh but not too sweet. Better than the M&S lemon hot cross buns by a mile.”
Rating: 8/10
"So yum! The creme tastes like cheesecake and the bread isn't too sweet. Would eat again."
Rating: 8/10
“I've been wanting to try a fruit sando for years, so it's incredibly cool to see M&S embracing this whimsical Japanese creation! Though dubbed a sandwich this is very much a sweet treat, with the soft, light brioche bread and satisfying thick cream pairing perfectly with the fragrant, perfectly ripe strawberries.”
Overall, we were all pleasantly surprised at how well maintained the different textures of the sandwich were, with there being no sogginess in sight!
Clearly, the classic combo proved a hit across much of the team, though for those who favour a quintessential dessert in its purest form or likewise an unadulterated savoury sandwich, this perhaps isn't the sando for you.
We're jumping on the cookie craze.
