Netflix and the creators of hit show Fool Me Once are bringing us a new must-watch series, Missing You. And they've just dropped a stunner of a trailer.

The latest instalment from bestselling mystery writer Harlan Coben will explore the mysteries around a murder and a fiancé that disappears – and reappears years later on a dating app.

It will star Slow Horses actor Rosalind Eleazar as protagonist and Missing Persons detective Kat, helming a pretty impressive cast from Sir Lenny Henry and Top Boy's Ashley Walters to Busted star Matt Willis.

Fool Me Once quickly became a compelling Netflix hit in January this year, starring Michelle Keegan and Joanna Lumley – it was even named as #1 most-viewed TV show on Netflix for the first half of 2024 – and we're predicting a similar vibe for Missing You. Coben signed a five-year deal with Netflix to bring more of his novels to the streamer, so watch this space for more to come as well.

We will see the return of Fool Me Once star Richard Armitage, who played Maya (Keegan)'s elusive husband Joe, and has starred in all Harlan Coben adapatations so far.

Here's everything else we know so far about Missing You.

Missing You plot

“The limited series focuses on Kat Donovan (Eleazar), a detective specialising in missing persons,” the show's plot synopsis reads. "Eleven years ago, her fiancé Josh, the love of her life, vanished without a trace, and she hasn’t heard from him since.

“Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she suddenly sees his face and her world explodes all over again. Josh's unexpected reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.”

Coben himself has hyped up the twists and turns in the show, particularly the ending, which apparently even fooled him when he watched it back. “I think it may be my most gripping, and the ending will not only surprise you,” he said in an interview. "In fact, [when] I recently re-watched it, I was completely fooled by the ending – and I wrote it."

Missing You cast

Joining Rosalind Eleazar as Kat will be Top Boy's Ashley Walters as Josh, Fool Me Once star Richard Armitage, Sir Lenny Henry, Steve Pemberton, Marc Warren, Sex Education star Samantha Spiro, Jessica Plummer, Mary Malone, Lisa Faulkner, Busted's Matt Willis, Rudi Dharmalingam and James Nesbitt.

Missing You release date

The series will drop on Netflix on New Year's Day. What a 2025 treat. There will be five hour-long episodes that – let's be honest – we'll most likely watch in quick succession over the Bank Holiday.

Missing You trailer

The trailer has got us, TBH. It's set to a gorgeous, haunting rendition of Missing by Everything by the Girl – an iconic tune used to perfection here.

It looks like alongside her estranged partner reappearing on a dating app, as she struggles to move on after eleven years Kat will also be recruited to find a missing mother. Apparently she's the only one who can find her.

Multiple mysteries and secrets run riot = perfect cosy January viewing.
