BLACKPINK's Jennie is a fashion chameleon, and at the Met Gala tonight, she aced the assignment by transforming her reimagined tuxedo look into a perfect tribute to one of the original female dandies Coco Chanel.
The Met Gala 2025 theme being “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," it's not terribly surprising to see many beautiful suits on both men and women. Emma Chamberlain kicked things off in custom Courreges, for example, and Zendaya wore a crisp white suit with a matching floppy hat by Louis Vuitton designed by Pharrell. Dandyism might originally refer to menswear, but ultimately came to represent an approach to dressing that was about individualism and expressing someone's personal style.

By this definition, Coco Chanel was one of the first female dandies of her time, known for borrowing from the boys in her designs. First she removed feathers and trimmings from hats, making her headpieces simpler, and more minimalist, and she later revolutionised the world of fashion by eschewing the fit-and-flare female silhouette popularised at the time, favouring boxy, cropped suits for which Chanel is known today.
Chanel ambassador Jennie has worn the French brand every year she's attended fashion's biggest night but this year's Met Gala look might be the best yet. The look perfectly paid homage to Coco Chanel, in a tuxedo gown and matching hat—the kind Coco herself wore. The tux-dress features an off-the-shoulder silhouette, cropped cigarette trousers and a long train finished off with pearl details and a camellia flower that makes it the perfect look that the iconic designer would wear in 2025. 10 out of 10, no notes.
