After months of drama, scandal and love, Married At First Sight Australia has finally wrapped up with its explosive reunion episode.
This season has been filled with drama and, unsurprisingly, the reunion was no different. Jono showed up with Ellie (yes, the same contestant he claimed to be texting “as a friend”). Jono also revealed that Tim had made some comments about feeling rushed before the final vows, and Sara, predictably, threw a fit. Tori and Jack struggled through a seriously uncomfortable commitment ceremony before storming off. As we said, a lot of chaos.
But one of the most shocking things to happen? One contestant failed to turn up altogether. Where on earth was Madeleine?
Madeleine's journey on Married At First Sight
First, a walk down memory lane. Let's recap Madeleine's brief time on the show.
Madeleine, an actor-slash-psychic, was paired with Ash. Their wedding, as Ash later recalled to Nine, was “surreal”. “Madeleine dancing on tables, crying over cows and then eating meat... just an absolute shit show. Wild, traumatic, crazy.”
Wait — how long has it actually been since the MAFS reunion was filmed.
Their honeymoon was no better. And apparently, there was a lot that never made it to our screens.
“There was a lot of chaos that didn't make it to TV,” he said on the podcast Behind the Edit. "You only got a taste of what went on, it was crazy. You didn't see jumping on tables, screaming at the universe, rolling around on the floor, not participating in any activity that we did. We went on a boat and she hated it, we did clay (pottery) and she hated it, didn't participate, just wild antics."
Apparently, he knew they weren't a match from the day after the wedding.
“The morning after the wedding, I was like there's something — the vibe wasn't there,” he said. “I was like this is just weird, I don't know if I'm in a new experience and everything feels weird, but it just felt weird being around her.”
The pair called it quits and parted ways after the very first commitment ceremony.
Why wasn't Madeleine at the Married At First Sight reunion?
Ok, so… where was she? Although Madeleine wasn't exactly at the top of our list of “people-we-want-to-catch-up-with” at the reunion, her absence was a little odd, right?
Well, it turns out that there was a very simple explanation about why Madeleine was a no-show – she simply didn't want to go. “I chose not to go to the reunion because I did not feel in alignment with the production itself,” she said to Daily Mail Australia. “The production itself was something that was contradictory to what they sell Australia.”
After a season filled with drama, did any couples make it all the way?
In other words, it sounds like Madeleine was disappointed with her time on the show — and simply did not want to be part of it anymore.
Madeleine's short-lived partner on the show, Ash, did turn up to the reunion. And as he told the publication, he was actually pretty happy with her decision to skip the event, calling it a “blessing in disguise”.

He added, “I was expecting her to come back. I followed things through till the end. I had an obligation to come back to myself, to the show, to the other couples. So I did the right thing and I showed up. But she didn't.”
He went on to explain that Madeleine had allegedly not spoken to anyone from the show. “As far as I know, no one's heard from her,” he said, adding, “As soon as I left the experiment I blocked her number. But, if she wanted to, she could reach out, but she's probably forgotten about me.”
