Feminist icon Elle Woods is on her way back to the big screen for Legally Blonde 3 – and she won't be alone.
Jennifer Coolidge – general babe, superstar and one of the key reasons to watch the first two Legally Blonde films – will most certainly be returning for the much-awaited third instalment. This fact has been confirmed by Elle Woods herself, Reese Witherspoon.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, she confirmed the most adorable truth: "There is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge”. She went on to praise her long-time Legally Blonde co-star, along with her excitement at the huge buzz around Coolidge right now, particularly after her latest outing in the second season of The White Lotus.

“I’m beyond myself about Jennifer Coolidge,” Reese said. She deserves every one of those flowers she is receiving right now."
“She's just one of those people who is so naturally gifted and funny and that you can just tell people love her, 'cause she gets up there and everybody's like, 'I love her,' but she's just done a lot of good work in our business for so long, that it's really nice to see her getting this incredible moment.” We couldn't agree more.
Way back in October 2020, Reese Witherspoon confirmed that she will star in Legally Blonde 3, and her production company Hello Sunshine – responsible for amazing projects such as Where The Crawdads Sing, Big Little Lies, Little Fires Everywhere and the much-anticipating upcoming Daisy Jones & The Six – will be producing as well.
Taking to Instagram to break the news to her fans and confirm that the rumours were actually true, Reese posted a short video of her chilling on a float on her pool in true Elle Woods style. She captioned the shot: "It’s true... #LegallyBlonde3".

When will Legally Blonde 3 be released?
Talks of a third film first started back in 2018 with a set release date for Valentine's Day in 2020. However, due to the pandemic this was pushed back.
Initially, the release date for Legally Blonde 3 was 20th May 2022, but was postponed so that the film's co-writers Mindy Kaling – of Never Have I Ever fame – and Brooklyn Nine Nine's Dan Goor can work more on the script. We're waiting patiently, honestly.
Who will star in Legally Blonde 3?
Like us, you're probably wondering who will be joining Reese in the upcoming movie? Well it's safe to say the OG cast will all be back, according to the actress.
"I love Jennifer Coolidge and Luke Wilson and Selma Blair and so there's so many great characters that people love," Reese told Entertainment Tonight before the film was confirmed.
That said, we're still very much at the speculations stage, as no cast members have been *OFFICIALLY* confirmed. But seeing as this film has been such a long time in the making, we're hoping we can trust on all our old faves making a return. Yes, even Warner, so Elle can tell him off all over again.
What can we expect from Legally Blonde 3?
Easter Eggs have been dropped for a while, as far back as 2021, in fact. Speaking to Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown on the 2021 Emmys red carpet, Jennifer Coolidge said that she was ready to “corner” Mindy Kaling, who is producing the new movie.
When asked what we could expect from her return to one of her most iconic roles to date, in which she plays the notorious Paulette Bonafonte Parcell, Coolidge said: “Yeah, I need to corner Mindy Kaling tonight,” before sharing her ideas of what she'd want to see in the movie.
Naturally, she painted a hilarious of a scene including Reese Witherspoon’s iconic character Elle Woods “running really fast together” like in an action movie or perhaps she might want a “vegan hot dog” to fit modern times.
Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, who wrote the script for the first film, began writing Legally Blonde 3, with Mindy and Dan are joining the project belatedly.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Reese has also revealed some cheeky teasers. Well sort of, “Oh, it’s gonna be so fun! I got to go to a meeting the other day where we talked about all the new plot points and all the characters and some returning characters and some new characters. I mean, I got so excited just in the meeting. I was like, ‘This is gonna be good.’”
So get working on that bend and snap, because Elle Woods will take on the millennial world – and we can't wait.
