Kim Kardashian has been keeping it fresh when it comes to her hair recently. She's always been a chameleon in the beauty department, but it seems every day, she's serving up a different vibe.

The latest? On Wednesday she headed out in Los Angeles to attend the launch of sister Kylie's most recent addition to Kylie Cosmetics. While there, Kim debuted a new look that we haven't seen from her before. Her hair was tied back into a half-tucked ponytail – the type that most of us have done the morning after a big night out when our hair's looking a little greasy.

But, Kim's remixed it into an “out-out” hairstyle that's giving us superhero meets Billy-Ray Cyrus vibes – and honestly, we're weirdly into.

The hairstyle equivalent of smart-casual, the secret to the look is in the business-like snatched shape at the front which elevates the ponytail into a style that's neater and a little more sophisticated (and – bonus – works well on oily roots). But it's all party at the back, where the loose ends of her ponytail create an edgy mullet shape in an homage that would mend Billy-Ray's achy breaky heart.

The best bit? Most of us already have a fair bit of practice doing this one on third-day hair, but now Kim's given us the inspo to wear it out of the house. And we're happy to see another bedhead hairstyle (see: the messy topknot and off-duty bun) given a glam makeover.

Given her recent track record, this won't be the last unexpected hairstyle we'll see from Ms Kim Kardashian who's been on a roll since that cray-cray colour revamp back in May, which saw her dye her hair from deep raven to platinum blonde (a gradual process which normally takes repeat visits to the salon) on the same day as the Met Gala. In the months since, she's sliced her hair into that curtain cut blonde bob, piled it into a gothic Pammy Anderson updo for sis Kourtney's wedding and rocked a hairchitecture XXXXXXL Rapunzel plait for her cover with Allure.
