The off-duty bun that we've been noticing across the 'gram is a departure from the classic messy top-knot (also a fave). For a start, it's sleeker across the top and tied tighter into place. Instead of sitting up high, we've noticed the cool-girls wearing it around their crown or low at their nape.
Dubbed the "model" bun, thanks to its popularity with the likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber, it has a slightly more polished feel than messy buns, yet it still feels relaxed and effortless. Think: brushed up brows and pared back lip balm and you're on the right track.

It kind of feels like a metaphor for where we are now. Now that our social calendar is all-filled up again, we want a hairstyle that can take us out-out. But, we also want something easy, and a little bit relaxed. This nails the brief.
Unsurprisingly, the hairstyle is picking up momentum (and loads of celeb fans) as it shapes up to be one of the biggest trends of the summer. The latest recruit is Hilary Duff, who looks incredible with beautifully fresh makeup and a neat bun, mussed up with spiky ends sticking out.

There's centre-parted and super sleek, like JLo, whose hair was combed neatly back into a knot at the nape of her neck, by hair stylist, Andrew Fitzsimmons. She paired it with stacked gold necklaces and a deep V lavender top.
Spiked, like Kendall

We love how Kendall's bun has the ends left out, to make a super glam, bejewelled Met Gala look feel more low-key and casual. This is the off-duty bun working hard on duty.
Croc-clipped, like Kaia

There's crocodile-clipped like Kaia Gerber, who's also a fan of the style.

And there's braided back like Laura Harrier whose sleek cornrows are knotted into a neat coil at the base of her neck.
So, next time you sling your hair back out the way, just revel in the fact that you are a trend-setter. NBD.
