Leave it to Katy Perry to get jaws dropping at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music event. The chart-topping pop star walked the red carpet with a jet-black micro-fringe that had both geometric and Audrey Hepburn influences.

Katy Perry has never exactly been shy of a hair transformation, having rocked a bright blue bob and even a buzzcut in the past. During her time as a judge on American Idol, we have also witnessed her yo-yo between glamorous waves with a centre parting and various bang styles – all of which, are almost certainly clip-in pieces.
She has teased us with wispy, brow-skimming bangs and a topknot. The micro-fringe has also made an appearance on more than one occasion, although it's normally more piece-y than last night's iteration, with celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkins even commenting on one post: “CUT THESE BANGS IMMEDIATELY I LOVE THEM SO MUCH”.

Whether she took Jen's advice last night and went for a permanent chop is yet to be seen, but Katy paired her razor-sharp micro-bangs with a pin-straight, waist-length ponytail that swished over her red corset top. Her makeup was classic-leaning, perhaps to match her over-sized pearl earrings and necklace. A swipe of red lipstick, black kohl-rimmed eyes and lashes, saturated in mascara, completed the look.
Fashion-wise, the party was at the back with a fishtail skirt that boasted a risqué lace-up detail that revealed a black thong. Katy also gave fans a glimpse of a butterfly-shaped prosthetic tattoo on the base of her back. Referencing the inspiration for the statement tattoo in an Instagram carousel, she wrote: ‘you’re my butterfly, sugar, baby’ - a quote from Crazy Town's 1999 hit Butterfly.

One thing is for certain: Katy certainly knows how to serve up a lewk. And given Zendaya recently test drove almost identical bangs in Paris, the micro-fringe is shaping up to be the red carpet hairstyle du jour.
